Muvi Studios, the production arm of Muvi Cinema, will produce 10 Saudi films over the next 18 months following the signing of several production agreements with local companies. The company made the announcement at the second edition of the Saudi Film Forum.
The Minister of Culture and chairman of the board of directors of the Saudi Film Commission Prince Badr bin Abdullah inaugurated the second edition of the Saudi Film Confex in Riyadh last week. In his speech, Prince Badr unveiled the ministry's plan to make Saudi Arabia a hub for film production. "We seek to make the Kingdom a regional and international hub for film production, as well as to empower talents, and open up horizons for strategic partnerships that contribute to developing the infrastructure and enhance the screening and distribution sector," he said.
The Saudi Film Commission has assumed oversight responsibilities for the cinema sector, marking a departure from the purview of the General Authority of Media Regulation. According to industry reports, the transition has taken place following the completion of requisite regulations in an order from the Council of Ministers.
