Nice Shoes provided color grading and editorial finishing services for Keep Sweet: Pray and Obey, Netflix’s four-part documentary series about the Fundamentalist Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints and its self-proclaimed prophet, Warren Jeffs. Directed by Rachel Dretzin and produced and co-directed by Grace McNally, the series explores, in shocking detail, the FLDS’s decades of practicing polygamy, forced underage marriage and pregnancy, and the events that led to Jeffs’ 2011 life sentence.

Filming The Rescue

Jimmy Chin and Elizabeth Chai Vasarhelyi's film, The Rescue tells the story of the 2018 Tham Luang cave rescue in which twelve boys from the Wild Boars Football club and their coach were trapped in a flooded cave complex in Thailand. Documenting the huge risks taken by a team of specialist divers during the rescue, the production combines documentary footage with painstaking dramatic reconstructions shot by top underwater cinematographer Ian Seabrook.

Color Grading The Old Man

The FX original series The Old Man stars Jeff Bridges as the eponymous lead, former CIA operative Dan Chase, whose off-the-grid existence is rudely interrupted when an intruder breaks into his home. The confrontation sets off an epic game of cat and mouse, forcing Chase to go on the run as multiple parties seek to either bring him in or take him down. Sean Porter served as lead cinematographer for the series’ first season and shot four of the seven episodes, with Jules O’Loughlin, ACS, ASC and Armando Salas, ASC handling the remainder.

Loud Minds has partnered with the award-winning visual effects studio Milk to create many of the effects on the newly commissioned eight-part NBC series, Surviving Earth. A co-production between UK Indie Loud Minds and Universal Television Alternative Studio, the documentary series promises an incredible journey into prehistory to learn the lessons from past mass extinctions. The partnership will see Milk develop and create all the digital environments, landscapes and creatures that will bring the series to life.

Amazon Creates Immersive Cinema Ad

Amazon’s Alexa team has created an immersive 30-second cinema commercial, designed to reinforce the message that Alexa makes smart homes easier. The commercial begins with a voice-over giving a command to Alexa to dim the lights. To the audience’s surprise, not only do the lights in the film dim, but the theatre lights dim as well.

The Marvelous Ms. Marvel

For Marvel Studios’ latest episodic series, Ms. Marvel, the production faced an interesting, and somewhat rare challenge. Unlike some of the characters in the Marvel Cinematic Universe that are firmly established through decades of exposure, the titular character in the Disney+ exclusive series is a relatively new creation. That gave the production a little more flexibility when adapting her powers and allowed the showrunners to work with Oscar and Emmy-winning visual effects studio, Digital Domain, to reinvent Ms. Marvel’s powers for a new audience
