The 2023 Lower East Side Film Festival has announced the programming for its 13th annual event, which includes exclusive feature film premieres, specialty short showcases, industry panels, and parties from May 4 - 8 at the Village East Cinema, DCTV Firehouse Cinema, plus virtually through May 14.
Visual effects studio Digital Domain has appointed industry veteran Matt McClurg as its new head of visualization. McClurg will oversee the VFX studio's full range of visualization efforts, including comprehensive previs and post viz work and a virtual production department that ranks among the top in the industry.

VFX Legion’s British Columbia studio recently delivered a mix of photoreal visual effects for the debut season of Wednesday, Netflix’s coming-of-age supernatural series. The show revolves around the Addams family’s eldest sibling, Wednesday, a mirthless, death-obsessed teenage girl, with a penchant for the macabre – and psychic abilities. Creators Alfred Gough and Miles Milla were also Wednesday’s showrunners and executive produced the sleuthing teen dramedy alongside filmmaker Tim Burton.
The American Film Institute is accepting applications for the 2023 Cinematography Intensive for Women presented by Panavision. The four-day program will be held on the AFI Campus in Los Angeles on June 22–25. Designed for aspiring cinematographers, the goal of the program is to provide participants with a toolkit to secure on-set experience in the field and first-hand industry insights demonstrating the path to professional career success.
Sony has unveiled a new virtual production tool set to help improve pre-production and on-set workflows. The new tool set works with the Sony Venice camera, Crystal LED and other HDR-enabled LED walls to improve performance and help solve common virtual production challenges such as color matching and moiré to enhance in-camera visual effects.
