Ymagis Group has increasd its ownership stake in Belarusian exhibitor services business partner Kraftwerk Weissrussland from 20 percent to 60 percent following an agreement with Austria’s Kraftwerk Living Technologies.
Four new titles are being added to the growing slate of movies to be shown at Dolby Cinema locations around the globe. They include Sony Pictures’ Passengers, due out December 21; Warner Bros. Pictures’ Live by Night, due out January 13; Paramount Pictures’ xXx: Return of Xander Cage, due out January 20; and Focus Features’ The Coldest City, due out July 28.
MTI Film has released DRS Nova 2.3, an upgrade to its software for digital film restoration. The new release includes a host of new and enhanced features created in response to requests from restoration professionals worldwide. All are aimed at making such tasks as dust busting, image stabilization and de-warping faster and easier.
Film technology is taking center stage at the 20th IIT Techfest 2016, Asia's largest science and technology festival. Qube Cinema is digital cinema partner for the event, which runs December 16-18 at the IIT Bombay campus at Powai, Mumbai.
Arcadia Cinema in Melzo, Italy has installed a Cinemeccanica Lux 50K laser projection system, which delivers 50,000 lumens on Christie 4230 projectors. The theatre also has a Dolby Atmos sound system. The first screening will be December 15 with Rogue One: A Star Wars Story.
Travelers debuts December 23rd on Netflix, which will have exclusive international rights everywhere except in Canada, where it has already begun airing on Showcase. The original series is being released in 4K UHD.
Fresh Air Flicks founder/owner Glen Sanders spotted the trend of outdoor cinema early on as it gained traction in Brooklyn and other communities. Starting out in 2004, Sanders and Fresh Air Flicks were providing giant inflatable screens for events like Movies with a View that would bring as many as 8,000 people out for an evening to watch films in the park beneath the Brooklyn Bridge.
Curtain Raiser, a new platform from UFO Moviez, recently enabled the producers of the highly anticipated feature film Raees to premier the film’s trailer simultaneously in theatres all across India. What made the event unique was that it also gave fans the ability to interact live with the film’s star – Shah Rukh Khan.
CinemaNext has signed an agreement with Empire Cinemas, the UK’s leading independently owned cinema chain, to oversee projection and audio installations, field services and technical customer support. The agreement covers Empire’s entire network of 14 locations across Great Britain, representing a total of 127 screens, including two IMAX Cinemas.
By overwhelming popular demand, acclaimed animation studio Laika will present a return holiday engagement of From Coraline to Kubo: A Magical Laika Experience from December 21, 2016 to January 15, 2017 at Universal Studios Hollywood. This special event will take place within the theme park’s Globe Theatre and is included in the price of admission.
