Cineworld has renovated its Newport Spytty Park theatre with three premium formats to create the most immersive cinema in Wales. Mo Williams, general manager of Cineworld Newport Spytty Park said, “We are absolutely delighted to be the first in the area to open 4DX, ScreenX and Superscreen [auditoriums] in the one cinema. I can’t wait to welcome movie fans from Newport and beyond to visit the most immersive cinema in Wales.”
D-Box has signed a contract to install its motion seats in four auditoriums and one large format screen at Kinopolis’s Mathäser Filmpalast’s flagship cinema complex in Munich. This brings the total number of D-Box screens 4 auditoriums including one large format screen. This brings the total number of D-Box screens at Kinopolis to 31.
The Walt Disney Studios will release four upcoming titles in CJ 4DPlex’s multi-sensory 4DX format. Following the successful global release of The Lion King and Aladdin in 4DX, Maleficent: Mistress of Evil will be released in October, followed by Frozen 2 and Ford v Ferrari in November and Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker in December.
Sony Pictures will release more films for 2019-2020 in MediaMation’s immersive cinema MX4D format. The format was programmed for nine Sony Pictures releases this calendar year, starting with Escape Room, through the blockbuster, Spider-Man: Far From Home.
This week DTS released its DTS:X Immersive Audio Bitstream software development kit to its cinema partners. The company believes the move strengthens its position as the motion picture industry creates the interoperable IAB content and device ecosystem needed to provide a true immersive sound experience in theatres.
Kinepolis’ Jaarbeurs, Utrecht opens October 10 and will feature laser projection, RealD 3D and a MediaMation MX4D auditorium. This is the first of several Kinepolis based MX4D locations as part of a recent deal.

But that’s exactly what happened when B&B Theatres acquired an old movie house in Overland Park, Kansas and set about the work of making it their own. The result is the world’s second largest ScreenX auditorium and its first ScreenX Amphitheatre, complete with a unique approach to the DTS:X sound system.
CJ 4DPlex and Paramount Pictures have expanded their ongoing partnership to release the action-thriller Gemini Man in the ScreenX format. Directed by Ang Lee. Gemini Man in ScreenX will be shown in theaters worldwide beginning October 2, on 233 screens, across 22 countries. The film opens in the U.S. on October 11 at Regal Cinemas, B&B Theatres and CGV Cinemas.
Leading Hindi films distributor Yash Raj Films has teamed with California based MediaMation to release the Indian feature War in MX4D. The film is one of the most anticipated features of all time for the Indian film industry.
B&B Theatres will install ten MX4D auditoriums in new builds, existing theatres and retrofitted cinema acquisitions across the United States by the end of next year. “The expansion of our relationship with MediaMation proves our belief in MX4D,” said Brock Bagby, executive vice president of B&B Theatres.
