Twentieth Century Fox SmartJog Sign European Satellite Distribution Deal

Twentieth Century Fox and SmartJog have signed a non-exclusive agreement for satellite distribution of digital cinema content to theatres in Europe.  Under the terms of the agreement SmartJog will deliver Twentieth Century Fox movies in digital format to exhibitors connected to SmartJog’s Pan-European digital cinema network.

Santikos Theatres to Install Barco Projectors in 62 Screens

San Antonio Texas-based Santikos Theatres has selected Barco cinema projectors for their digital projection conversion of five additional multiplexes. As one of the nation's oldest and most highly regarded exhibitors Santikos selected the full spectrum of Barco digital projectors for the 62-screen conversion including the DP-1200 DP-1500 DP-2000 and Barco's flagship DP-3000. The digital cinema conversion is now underway at the five San Antonio locations: the Palladium Mayan 13 Embassy 14 Rialto 14 and Silverado 16.

Challenging the Audience

The Hush challenges its audience to think. In director Vincent Cortez’s vision it's a surreal journey into both the gritty criminal world and the supernatural. His goal is to see The Hush go from film noir to horror to supernatural to action thriller. Cortez wanted to produce this independent film with the quality and caliber that would see his artistic passions come to life. He wanted to challenge the audience to rethink the way they experienced movies.

Reimagining Solomon Grundy

By Mattson Tomlin   I'm a 19 year old film major attending the State University of New York in Purchase.  Solomon Grundy is a poem by James Orchard Halliwell from 1840. I've always been rather drawn to it so working with a few actors I shot a proof-of-concept film based on the poem’s opening lines: Solomon Grundy/Born on a Monday.

Technicolor 3D Installed at Bow Tie

Bow Tie Cinemas in New York will install Technicolor's film-based 3D system in all Bow Tie locations on 25 of its 150 screens.  Technicolor 3D is a new 3D system for 35mm projectors that the company says enables exhibitors to equip theatres for high-quality 3D at a fraction of the cost of installing a digital 3D projection system.  The Technicolor 3D system utilizes a next-generation 3D lens for projectors and film prints created with patent-pending digital processes to optimize the motion picture image for 35mm 3D projection.  Bow Tie will install Technicolor 3D in advance of March 26 re

Documenting the Conservation Message

Wildlife videographer Terry Shiels has recently completed another episode of the ongoing award-winning television series The Zoo Filez which is seen by over 400 000 viewers each week and is carried by ten broadcast stations and two cable systems across North Carolina. Shiels is about to take off for yet another adventure and says “One of the first things that I’ll pack is my Sachtler FSB6 head and aluminum sticks.

Understanding 3D

By Matthew DeJohn and Michael Karagosian There is a shifting tide in the film industry and you can only see it if you wear the right glasses: 3D glasses. At the time of this writing there are nine thousand 3D capable theatre screens worldwide and scores more being installed. The home entertainment market is set to release dozens of 3D TV and Blu-Ray models. Avatar made 3D history and more than 25 3D movies are slated for release in 2010. It's clear that 3D is becoming more than just a trend.

Distributing Forces of Nature

National Geographic Cinema Ventures has selected Evans & Sutherland Computer Corporation and Sky-Skan to convert and distribute its film Forces of Nature to digital planetariums and other full dome theatres. This will be Sky-Skan’s first full dome project with National Geographic. E&S previously acquired full dome distribution rights to NGCV’s Sea Monsters: A Prehistoric Adventure.

Forces of Nature originally released to giant-screen theatres in May 2004 invites viewers to experience some of our planet’s fiercest natural phenomena.
