Autodesk International 3D Society Announce 3D Independent Film Competition

With the support of member-company Autodesk the International 3D Society has announced the 3D Independent Film Competition. The competition is open to 3D filmmakers around the world. All films must be submitted by December 12 at 11:00 pm PST.   The 3D Independent Film Competition supports 3D filmmakers around the world. Filmmakers have the opportunity to show their work directly to the 3D industry's leading companies and studios including the major Hollywood studios. A panel of top 3D industry professionals will judge each submission.

Indican Pictures Releases Final Borgnine Film December 7th

Indican Pictures’ will release the final film by Academy Award winner Ernest Borgnine The Man Who Shook the Hand of Vicente Fernandez and it will open December 7th in Los Angeles. In the film Borgnine delivers a memorable starring performance as a retired radio DJ who has always dreamed of being a Western movie cowboy star.  While recovering from a back injury at a Latino-staffed nursing home he finally has an opportunity to act out his dreams of being a hero. The movie stars Borgnine and features Barry Corbin Arturo Del Puerto and Audrey P. Scott. Elia Petridis wrote and directed.

Cinema Advertising Council Elects New Officers

Hotel Transylvania Posted at Colorworks

Hotel Transylvania Sony Pictures Animation’s monster hit comedy that has broken records at the U.S. box office went through final color grading and stereo finishing in full 3D at Colorworks Sony Pictures Entertainment’s digital intermediate facility. DI Colorist John Persichetti used a FilmLight Baselight to apply the finishing touches to the film prior to its worldwide release. It was the second stereo 3D animated feature that Persichetti has graded on Baselight.

Content Media Preferred Content Form Partnership

Content Media Corporation CEO John Schmidt and Content Film’s Jamie Carmichael have made a deal to establish a new film television and digital production and development company in partnership with Preferred Content founders Ross M. Dinerstein and Kevin Iwashina. The new entity entitled Preferred Film & TV will be a joint venture between CMC and PC.  Dinerstein and Iwashina will collectively oversee the day-to-day company operations working closely with Carmichael.

Dolby Atmos Cinema Processor Now Available for Purchase

Dolby has announced the pre-sale availability of the Dolby Atmos Cinema Processor CP850 which includes the Dolby Atmos Commissioning Service with purchase. The technology will be featured in Life of Pi which is being released later this month. The new Dolby CP850 offers a complete audio solution to today’s digital cinema theatres. In addition to Dolby Atmos playback the Dolby CP850 offers support for 64 speaker feeds and is configurable between 16 analog outputs and a Dolby Atmos Connect output Dolby Surround 7.1 and 5.1 digital playback (PCM as part of DCI movies).

Corus Entertainment Google and Shaw Media Support Canada’s ideaBoost

Corus Entertainment Google and Shaw Media have announced that they are lending their support to ideaBoost a new accelerator program initiated by the Canadian Film Centre Media Lab. IdeaBoost offers financial backing strategic guidance and mentor support to help convert high-potential Canadian digital content ventures into commercially successful offerings. CFC's IdeaBoost also announced the first group of content creators selected to participate in the four-month program.

John Agalsoff Jr. has been in charge of sound for many major television series features and commercials. Halseys Signed to Edit Corey Weissman Story

The acclaimed film editing team of Richard and Colleen Halsey has been signed to edit 1 000 to 1: The Cory Weissman Story. Richard Halsey won an Oscar winner for Rocky; Colleen Halsey edited Edward Scissorhands.  The film which just wrapped principal photography in Pennsylvania is the true story of a young basketball player who suffered a catastrophic stroke as a freshman at Gettysburg College and returned to the court for one remarkable moment in the last game of his senior year.  The film’s producers Bob Burris and Bruce Gordon made the announcement.

Making the Switch to Multi-Camera Shooting

Disney’s Pair of Kings is an unusual multi-camera series to say the least. It is filled with incredible battles and amazing stunts as well as special effects and “lots of really funny stuff ” said director of photography Johnny Simmons ASC. “We shoot both four-camera and single camera style; maintaining the use of all four cameras shooting coverage inside the proscenium. “On the multi-camera shows that I’ve been shooting Vinten has pretty much been the standard ” he said. “Coming from single camera I wasn’t that familiar with what sitcom camera operators wanted to use.
