Arri has reached a settlement in its patents dispute with RotoLight. The companies issued a joint public statement regarding the issue.
Among the newest additions to Rising Sun Pictures’ Brisbane Studio is lighting artist Matt Dorey. A 2018 recipient of the studio’s Graduate Certificate in Dynamic Effects and Lighting, Dorey began his career at Pixel Zoo, Brisbane, and earned his first screen credit at Mill Film Adelaide (now MPC) on the post-apocalyptic drama Love and Monsters (a 2021 Oscar nominee for Best Visual Effects). He also spent two years in Toronto at the studios Mr. X and MPC, contributing to projects including Cowboy Bebop, Nightmare Alley, and Guillermo del Toro’s Pinocchio.

When cinematographer Zach Kuperstein got the job to shoot writer-director Zach Cregger’s horror feature Barbarian, one of the first things he did was reach out to Light Iron senior colorist Sam Daley. The two had previously worked together on a short and three independent features — The Eyes of My Mother, The Vigil, and Paper Spiders — but their collaborations began during post, not during pre-production.
Jimmy Chin and Elizabeth Chai Vasarhelyi's film, The Rescue tells the story of the 2018 Tham Luang cave rescue in which twelve boys from the Wild Boars Football club and their coach were trapped in a flooded cave complex in Thailand. Documenting the huge risks taken by a team of specialist divers during the rescue, the production combines documentary footage with painstaking dramatic reconstructions shot by top underwater cinematographer Ian Seabrook.
The Television Academy has announced that Arri will receive the Philo T. Farnsworth Corporate Achievement Award for its more than a century of designing and manufacturing camera and lighting systems as well as its development of systemic technological solutions and service networks for a worldwide complex of film, broadcast, and media industries. The 74th Engineering, Science & Technology Emmy Awards ceremony will take place September 28 in Los Angeles.
Star Trek: Strange New Worlds is spin-off from Star Trek: Discovery and a prequel to Star Trek: The Original Series, Strange New Worlds follows Captain Christopher Pike and the crew of the USS. Enterprise. Cinematographer Glen Keenan, CSC, wanted to give the show the most organic, non-studio look to convince the audience they were seeing a real location.
Set in in New York City in the 1880s, a period marked by the clash between old traditions and new paradigms, Julian Fellowes’ HBO original series The Gilded Age tells the story of two families from different socioeconomic backgrounds and the relationship between them as they are trying to navigate those times of immense change. The Gilded Age chronicles the wide-eyed young scion of a conservative family who moves to New York City in 1882 and finds herself in the middle of a social war between old money and new money battling to preserve, or ascend, the social hierarchy. The first episode became available for streaming in the U.S. on HBO Max last month. Vanja Cernjul, ASC, HFS was the cinematographer for the series.
Arri has expanded its Approved Certified Pre-Owned program. Effective immediately, the motion picture equipment manufacturer also offers selected preowned and refurbished lighting fixtures for sale. An Arri spokeswoman said the offer is not yet available in the Americas.
Ben Díaz has joined Arri Lighting in its Stephanskirchen office. Effective this month, he will be senior product manager. The company says Díaz strengthens its focus on the development of high-quality LED lighting fixtures and accessories. Together with Arri Lighting head of product management Florian Bloch, Díaz will play an integral role in the planning, development, introduction, and life cycle management of new lighting products.
