Carmike, Fathom Plan Alternative Content in 150 Theaters in 2015

Carmike Cinemas today announced it has entered into a strategic partnership with Fathom Events to bring an enhanced and significantly expanded alternative programming offering to 150 Carmike locations in 31 states by the end of 2015. The initiative will encompass more than half of all Carmike locations and marks the single largest alternative programming deployment to date among major domestic movie theater operators. Carmike’s expanded alternative program offering will bring guests notable sporting events, great performances and other unique entertainment from around the world, complementing Carmike’s leading Hollywood studio movie slate through-out the year.

Cinedigm Acquires Distribution Rights to The Falling

Cinedigm has acquired all North American distribution rights to The Falling, starring Maisie Williams (Game of Thrones, Doctor Who), an evocative and beguiling film centered on an epidemic of fainting (mass psychogenic illness) at an English girls’ school in the 60s directed and written by Carol Morley (Dreams of a Life).

Veteran Re-Recording Mixer Kevin O’Connell Comes Home to Sony Pictures

Veteran re-recording mixer Kevin O’Connell has returned to Sony Pictures Post Production Services. A 20-time Academy Award-nominee, O’Connell has already completed four projects at Sony, The Boy Next Door, Self/less, No Good Deed and Pitch Perfect 2. He was previously on staff at the studio from 1993 to 2008 with credits including Pearl Harbor, Spider-Man, Spider-Man 2, Memoirs of a Geisha and Transformers, all of which led to Oscar nominations for sound.

Vimeo and Canon are partnering to release the feature-length documentary Bending the Light, directed by veteran filmmaker Michael Apted (the Up Series, Gorillas in the Mist, The World is Not Enough). Bending the Light, a celebration of the craft of visual imaging, explores the relationship between the artisans who create camera lenses and the professionals who depend on their lenses to capture their creative visions.

Upcoming indie feature The Great American Movie Hustle follows filmmaker Michael Anton and actor Michael Monsour as they attempt to create an epic cinematic film about making an epic cinematic film. Along the way, the duo encounters several twists and turns that mirror common production challenges filmmakers face today. Produced by Wonder Lab Films and directed by Anton, the parody is presented in a mockumentary format rife with old-school humor.
