By overwhelming popular demand, acclaimed animation studio Laika will present a return holiday engagement of From Coraline to Kubo: A Magical Laika Experience from December 21, 2016 to January 15, 2017 at Universal Studios Hollywood. This special event will take place within the theme park’s Globe Theatre and is included in the price of admission.
Supervising sound editor and sound designer Harry Cohen, will be honored by the Motion Picture Sound Editors association with its 2017 Career Achievement Award. An 18-time MPSE Golden Reel Award nominee, Cohen has contributed to more than 150 movies and television shows.
The startup audio technology company Soundly, today released its product with the same name, Soundly, a cloud-based sound effects library and workflow tool. The company says that Soundly represents a completely new approach to sound effects access and editing. Ymagis Group today announced its upcoming line-up of feature films available in EclairColor and the equipping of 14 EclairColor auditoriums in 11 cinemas in France. The Motion Picture Sound Editors will honor Guillermo del Toro with its annual Filmmaker Award. The acclaimed director of such films as Hellboy (2004), Pan’s Labyrinth (2006), Pacific Rim (2013), Crimson Peak (2015) and the forthcoming The Shape of Water is being recognized for his outstanding contributions to the art of cinema. He will receive the award at the MPSE Golden Reel Awards ceremony February 19 in Los Angeles.
New York Women in Film & Television has awarded its $7,500 Ravenal Foundation Grant to Debra Kirschner for Mallwalkers. Kirschner also wrote the script. The film follows a retired music teacher – a recent widow and a lifelong goody-goody – who is coaxed by her daughter to take daily walks in the local mall. There she connects with a wild posse of seniors who suspect foul play at the mall, and she becomes determined to put a stop to it.
