Dolby Atmos Passes Major Milestones

Dolby Laboratories today announced the company has exceeded major milestones, including the installation of 2,000 Dolby Atmos enabled cinema screens and the release of 500 movie titles mixed in Dolby Atmos. Since debuting in 2012 with Disney•Pixar’s Brave, Dolby Atmos has paved a new course for creative storytelling, transforming the ways in which audiences worldwide experience sound.

MPSE to Honor Guillermo del Toro

The Motion Picture Sound Editors will honor Guillermo del Toro with its annual Filmmaker Award. The acclaimed director of such films as Hellboy (2004), Pan’s Labyrinth (2006), Pacific Rim (2013), Crimson Peak (2015) and the forthcoming The Shape of Water is being recognized for his outstanding contributions to the art of cinema. He will receive the award at the MPSE Golden Reel Awards ceremony February 19 in Los Angeles.

Kirschner Awarded NYWIFT Grant for Mallwalkers

New York Women in Film & Television has awarded its $7,500 Ravenal Foundation Grant to Debra Kirschner for Mallwalkers. Kirschner also wrote the script. The film follows a retired music teacher – a recent widow and a lifelong goody-goody – who is coaxed by her daughter to take daily walks in the local mall. There she connects with a wild posse of seniors who suspect foul play at the mall, and she becomes determined to put a stop to it.

Creative Director/Flame Artist Les Umberger Joins Nine Mile Circle

Atlanta boutique post-production house Nine Mile Circle has added creative director, Flame artist and finishing editor Les Umberger to its creative team. Umberger is an Emmy Award-winning artist who brings experience with major brands and top agencies through past stints at West Coast shops Digital Domain and R!OT. His presence will allow Nine Mile to offer clients comprehensive post-production packages, encompassing creative editorial, color grading, visual effects, editorial finishing and sound at a level on par with companies in Los Angeles, New York and Chicago.

IRT Introduces IMF Analyzer 1.0

IRT has released its first IMF Analyzer 1.0 for quality control and management in the file-based production process. The Interoperable Master Format is the new standard by SMPTE for storing, exchanging and delivering A/V productions. IMF defines a package, which contains, among other, different MXF files for audio, video, subtitle and metadata.

Sixteen19 adds Second 4K DI Theatre

Sony Pictures Extends Relationship with Wazee Digital

Sony Pictures Post Production Services has extended its long-standing relationship with Wazee Digital through December 2017. Under the extended contract, Sony Pictures will continue using Wazee Digital Core and its automated metadata-processing technology to store, view, and manage assets from Sony Pictures' inventory of feature films, including stock footage, full-length features, and clip selects.
