Goodnight with Dolly gets Six Million Views

Watty Piper’s The Little Engine That Could, the first episode of Goodnight With Dolly, Dolly Parton’s series of bedtime stories for children, exceeded all expectations over the weekend, garnering nearly six million views across Facebook, YouTube, Twitter, Instagram, TikTok, and The Imagination Library’s own website. Since its inception in 1995, the Imagination Library has gifted more than 135 million books to children and is currently gifting books to 1.5 million children around the world each month.

Construction Halted on Academy Museum

Construction has halted on the Academy Museum in Los Angeles in the wake of the global pandemic but its organizers still expect to be able to meet their previously announced opening date of December 14. "We are keenly aware that we're working towards the opening of the Academy Museum during a time of great challenge," said Bill Kramer, director of the Academy Museum of Motion Pictures.

Sony Establishes $100 Million Global Relief Fund for COVID-19

Sony Corporation today announced the establishment of the Sony Global Relief Fund for COVID-19, a $100 million fund to support those around the world affected by the COVID-19 virus. Through this fund, Sony will provide support in three areas: assistance for those individuals engaged in frontline medical and first responder efforts to fight the virus, support for children and educators who must now work remotely, and support for members of the creative community in the entertainment industry, which has been greatly impacted by the spread of the virus.

Fund Started to Support U.S. Art Houses

The Art-House America Campaign, a new relief fund established by initial donations from the Criterion Collection and Janus Films, has been launched to help the more than 150 independent movie theatres across the United States that have temporarily closed to slow the spread of COVID-19. As part of that effort, a map is being created to track specific theatres that are closed.

Some event cinema distributors and their partners are getting creative in these challenging times. This Thursday, April 2, the Los Angeles-based event cinema distributor Abramorama and The Dollywood Foundation will present an online book-reading series entitled Goodnight with Dolly. Abramorama was originally scheduled to release the documentary The Library That Dolly Built in more than 330 cinemas on April 2. Due to the current COVID-19 crisis, the film will instead open nationally the week of September 21, to commemorate the Library’s 25th anniversary.
