Five New Films Coming in Dolby Cinema

Dolby Laboratories today announced five new titles to be shown at Dolby Cinema locations around the globe. The titles include Lionsgate’s Deepwater Horizon, due out September 30; Twentieth Century Fox’s Miss Peregrine’s Home for Peculiar Children, due out September 30; Sony Pictures’ Inferno, due out October 28; Lionsgate’s La La Land, due out December 16; and Legendary/Universal Pictures’ The Great Wall, due out February 17, 2017.

What ASC’s Cinema Display Evaluation Means

The American Society of Cinematography’s Cinema Display Evaluation Plan & Test Protocol is a key step towards establishing goals for an enhanced cinema experience. It was developed by the ASC’s Next Generation Cinema Display technology subcommittee in response to the emergence of new cinema technologies, and the resulting need for guidance among exhibitors, distributors, and technology providers. As co-chairs of the NGCD committee, we would like to take this opportunity to provide some background and the anticipated direction for this work.

ASC Releases Cinema Display Evaluation Plan

The Technology Committee of the American Society of Cinematographers has published its Cinema Display Evaluation Plan and Test Protocol, which defines a method for the visual evaluation of parameters that characterize next generation cinema projection and active screens. As part of the industry’s move to high dynamic range and wide color gamut, the document represents the first step towards the goal of identifying where value is created from the filmmaker’s point-of-view. It is available for download now on the ASC web site.

Dolby Vision, Atmos Movies Available on Vudu

Dolby Laboratories, Vudu, and Universal Pictures Home Entertainment have announced the first slate of titles now available in ultra high definition with Dolby Vision high dynamic range imaging. Dolby Vision titles now available for purchase and rental on Vudu include the all-new release The Huntsman: Winter’s War, and fan favorites Lucy, Oblivion, and Lone Survivor.

AMC, Dolby Accelerate Development Plans

In response to what they say has been impressive guest reaction and the overwhelming success of Dolby Cinema at AMC in its first full year, Dolby Laboratories and AMC Theatres today announced plans to accelerate Dolby Cinema at AMC installations to 100 operational sites by the end of 2017, seven years ahead of the originally announced schedule. The original agreement, reached in 2015, was for 100 auditoriums over a 10-year deployment.
