Ten years after the initial rollout of laser cinema projectors, the technology and the people who developed it are being honored with the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences Scientific and Technical Awards. Sixteen people from seven companies will be recognized on February 23. I am humbled to be recognized for my pioneering utilization of semiconductor lasers for theatrical laser projection systems. My advocacy and education to the cinema industry while at Laser Light Engines contributed to the transition to laser projection in theatrical exhibition. The other honorees are:
The National President of the Cinema Exhibitors Association of Nigeria, Opeyemi Ajayi, said that last month Nigerian cinemas generated N1.2 billion at the box office across the country. On a year-on-year basis this is a 46.5 percent increase when compared to N819 million recorded last January. He added that 322,833 tickets were sold in the same period.

Trafalgar Releasing, Gimme Sugar Productions, and Submarine Entertainment announced plans today to bring Hate to Love: Nickelback, a feature-length documentary film about one of Canada’s most iconic and globally celebrated rock bands, to cinemas worldwide for two nights only on March 27 and March 30. The feature-length documentary will be distributed to more than 1350 locations across 30 countries.
