Netflix, Disney+ Hotstar Account for Half of all SVOD Customers in India

Netflix and Disney+ Hotstar accounted for 50 percent of all streaming video-on-demand subscribers in India in 2020, according to Omdia’s latest 2021 Online Video Market and Consumer Trends Report. Omidia’s principal analyst, TV and online video, consumer Constantinos Papavassilopoulos said, “The online video market of India is steadily growing its foothold in every direction. The COVID-19 pandemic accelerated the growth rate of an already dynamic and robust OTT market.”

To create a more immersive experience with even, balanced sound coverage, the exhibitor recently decided to upgrade its aging audio systems. Leading Indian film production company Yash Raj Films has announced that its latest feature film War will be coming to select theatres in CJ4DPlex’s multi-sensory cinema experience, 4DX. War was produced by Aditya Chopra. The film will release October 2 on Gandhi Jayanti, a national holiday in India. The movie in 4DX will be available in India at PVR Cinemas and Cinepolis Cinemas, and at Oman, Qatar, Lebanon, and across the UAE at Vox Cinemas.

Sree Kalidas M-Plex Installs Christie Projection, ViveAudio

Sree Kalidas M-Plex has become the first cinema complex in the southern Indian state of Kerala to install cinema projectors featuring Christie RealLaser illumination and ViveAudio. Located in the capital city of Thiruvananthapuram, the newly completed multiplex has seven auditoriums. Christie’s Indian partner TSR handled the installation.
