At this year’s Association of Moving Image Archivists annual conference in Baltimore, four awards will be presented by the organization to individuals and organizations that have demonstrated exceptional work in the areas of preservation. The ceremony will take place on November 14 at the Parkway Theatre in Baltimore, where the convention runs from November 13-16.
The Hollywood Professional Association and the HPA Awards Committee have announced that respected journalist Peter Caranicas will be honored with the HPA Legacy Award. Caranicas is the first recipient of the honor. Given only at the discretion of the HPA Awards Committee and HPA Board of Directors, the HPA Legacy Award honors inspiring leaders, mentors, influencers, and those who have made consistent and valuable contributions to the industry. The award will be bestowed on November 21 at the 14th annual HPA Awards gala at the Skirball Cultural Center in Los Angeles.
Ziva Dynamics has won the Monolith Award for Technology for its flagship simulation software, Ziva VFX. The annual award is presented to the achievement that represents “the most outstanding innovations in technology" across the media and entertainment industry. It was presented live to Ziva Dynamics on November 9 at the Infinity Festival in Hollywood.
The not-for-profit independent trade organization Cinema Technology Community has announced the recipients of its 2019 awards. The awards recognize individuals and organizations that continue to drive excellence in moviegoing through the use of technology and outstanding service to the industry.
The Middle East and North Africa Cinema Forum, the region’s only cinema convention, held last week in Dubai, concluded with an awards ceremony, recognizing industry leaders in the MENA region. Executives from cinema chains, major studios, film distributors and their global partners attended the red-carpet affair. The awards were quantified by ComScore and presented in partnership with Dubai Studio City.

The award, whose recipient is selected by a jury of industry luminaries, was conceived to recognize companies and individuals who have demonstrated excellence, whether in the development of workflow, process or project to support creative storytelling, or in technical innovation. The Motion Picture Sound Editors will honor Victoria Alonso with its annual Filmmaker Award. As executive vice president of production at Marvel Studios, Alonso has executive produced films within the Marvel Cinematic Universe that have garnered critical acclaim and amassed more than $20 billion worldwide including Avengers: Endgame, Captain America, Guardians of the Galaxy, Thor, Black Panther and Captain Marvel, as well as the upcoming Black Widow. She will receive the award at the 67th MPSE Golden Reel Awards ceremony January 19, 2020, in Los Angeles.

A standard bearer for creative excellence and technical innovation, the HPA Awards honor outstanding achievement and artistic excellence by the individuals and teams who help bring stories to life.
The Motion Picture Sound Editors will honor Academy Award-winning supervising sound editor Cecelia “Cece” Hall with its 2020 MPSE Career Achievement Award. Hall received an Oscar nomination for sound editing in 1987 for her work on Top Gun and won the Oscar four years later for The Hunt for Red October.
The Society of Camera Operators will give cinematographer Steven Poster, ASC, the society’s 2019 Distinguished Service Award. The award will be presented January 18 at the Loews Hollywood Hotel.
