When Fujinon added the PL 19-90mm zoom lens to its Cabrio line, the company anticipated resistance from the cinema community. As Mike Nichols, business development manager for sales and rental house AbelCine puts it, “Most feature film DP’s are accustomed to primes and prefer a more traditional cinema-style lens, particularly in a narrative set up. And while the removable servo is convenient, DPs may not yet see it as a lens that’ll work in a cinematic set up.” That’s starting to change.

Manios Worldwide Distributor for New Veydra Lens Expander

Manios Digital & Film has reached an agreement with cinema lens maker Veydra to become the exclusive, worldwide distributor for its innovative new lens accessory, the Veydra 1.2x PL to PL Expander. The Expander makes it possible to use vintage zoom lenses from the Academy-format era with current generation Super 35 and larger sensor cameras.

Vimeo and Canon are partnering to release the feature-length documentary Bending the Light, directed by veteran filmmaker Michael Apted (the Up Series, Gorillas in the Mist, The World is Not Enough). Bending the Light, a celebration of the craft of visual imaging, explores the relationship between the artisans who create camera lenses and the professionals who depend on their lenses to capture their creative visions.

Arri Introduces Master Anamorphic Flare Sets

Arri has introduced new Arri Master Anamorphic Flare Sets that the company says are highly versatile and economical accessories for the Arri/Zeiss Master Anamorphic lens series. Each of the seven Master Anamorphic focal lengths has its own specific flare set, comprising easily replaceable front and rear glass elements that can be used individually or in combination to provide the lens with three additional looks for enriched on-set creativity.
