The Tasveer South Asian Film Festival has become the first South Asian Film Festival to earn the status of an Oscar-qualifying film festival in the world. The festival is held annually in Seattle.

The Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences held a panel called Destigmatizing Mental Health last week in partnership with the Ruderman Family Foundation, aiming to raise awareness among emerging and experienced filmmakers alike about the importance of mental health in the entertainment industry.
Three Ukrainian directors and screenwriters have been selected for residencies at Göteborg Film Festival. The three selected participants will spend August-September in Gothenburg, working in different ways with their projects at the offices of Göteborg Film Festival and getting introduced to the local film industry. The residency program is a cooperation with HDK-Valand, at the University of Gothenburg, and financed by Region Västra Götaland.
FutureWorks helped to recreate Delhi’s Uphaar Cinema disaster for the recent Netflix drama Trial by Fire, delivering all previs images for the devastating fire scenes. The seven-part miniseries is a dramatization of the tragic events of June 13, 1997, where a fire caused by ill-maintained equipment during an afternoon screening of the war epic Border resulted in the deaths of 59 people, with a further 103 injured in the resulting stampede. Due to multiple safety violations, many cinema-goers were trapped inside, eventually succumbing to smoke inhalation.
Academy Award-nominee Darren Aronofsky is currently directing the feature-length documentary film Postcard from Earth, a first-of-its-kind production set to debut at Sphere in Las Vegas this October. Aronofsky is utilizing the Big Sky camera system to capture content for the immersive production, which will fully-maximize Sphere’s 22nd century technologies – including the world’s highest resolution LED screen, the world’s most advanced concert audio system, and atmospheric elements such as wind and scent – to transport audiences to places both real and imagined.
The American Film Institute has launched a multifaceted partnership with Canva to empower rising filmmakers and improve access to the tools and skills necessary to realize their creative visions. Starting this year, as part of the new endeavor, Canva will establish The Canva Fellowship at the AFI Conservatory which provides scholarships for six AFI Fellows based on merit and financial need.

La Cabeza de Joaquín Murrieta was created by Mauricio Leiva-Cock and Diego Ramírez-Schrempp, and directed by David Pablos (episodes 1-4), Humberto Hinojosa (episodes 5-8). The series was produced by Dynamo Productions and Amazon Studios. Cinematographer Paulo Perez, ADFC, was chosen to capture the wide vistas of Mexico in the new Latin-Western series.

Sphere Entertainment today announced the launch of Sphere Studios, dedicated to developing original immersive entertainment exclusively for Sphere, through proprietary technology, tools and production facilities.
