Cooke Optics has added to its wide range of motion picture lenses with the introduction of the 300mm S7/i and the new 180mm Anamorphic/i Full Frame Plus lens. In addition, Cooke is announcing a new branch of the S7/i family by introducing three 1:1 macro Full Frame Plus lenses: 60mm, 90mm and 150mm.
All Cooke lenses are designed from the ground up, as real motion picture lenses, and are not repurposed still lenses.
Les Zellan, chairman, Cooke Optics, said, “In full frame the 300mm has roughly the same angle of view as a spherical 200mm lens so it is not as long as people might think. We believe it will be a very useful lens. The same is true for the 180mm 1.8x Anamorphic Full Frame Plus lenses. Horizontally this is a 100mm, which in Super35 terms is about a 75mm angle of view, so again not that long.”
“While I am not sure of the quantities we will sell of these longer lenses, they are required so that the filmmaker does not have to compromise,” Zellan continued. “We are making tools that cinematographers need to do their jobs. While each lens is not necessarily needed on every job, having a matched set of purpose-built motion picture macros gives DPs the flexibility they require.”
