First Look Media, a new-model media company supporting independent voices, and co-financer of Academy Award winning best picture, Spotlight, announced today that Annie Marter has joined the company as Senior Vice President, Feature Film, ramping up their studio’s efforts in film.
Marter is a film industry veteran who worked as an executive on SUNSHINE CLEANING, LET ME IN, JACK GOES BOATING, THE CRAZIES, THE MEN WHO STARE AT GOATS, TRAITOR, LAW ABIDING CITIZEN, and THE VISITOR, and whose producing credits include TRANSCENDENCE starring Johnny Depp. Marter will report to Adam Pincus, First Look Media’s EVP, Programming and Content.
In making this announcement Pincus said, “Annie’s got great taste in material and filmmakers, and strong relationships throughout the independent film world. Her track record in both finding and supporting new talent and working closely with more established makers lines up perfectly with what we’re building at First Look Media."
Marter said, “I feel fortunate to be joining this progressive, like-minded company at such an exciting time. We are going to be developing and producing a broad slate of films to champion both emerging and established filmmakers.”
The company also announced that they are developing a film script from writer/director, David Riker (DIRTY WARS, SLEEP DEALER and LA CIUDAD), based on unpublished reporting by Jeremy Scahill, one of three founding editors of The Intercept, which is dedicated to producing fearless, adversarial journalism. Mr. Scahill is an investigative reporter, war correspondent, and author of the international bestselling books Dirty Wars: The World Is a Battlefield, Blackwater: The Rise of the World’s Most Powerful Mercenary Army, and the just released title, The Assassination Complex. His work has sparked several congressional investigations and won some of journalism’s highest honors. Riker and Scahill collaborated previously on the award-winning film DIRTY WARS, which premiered at the 2013 Sundance Film Festival and was nominated for an Academy Award.
Marter said, “We are thrilled to be working with this team who had such success with Dirty Wars. Jeremy’s a world-class reporter who consistently uncovers the truth, and as a writer, David’s got such a strong and distinctive voice. Though we can’t reveal details, the subject is fascinating and incredibly relevant.”
In addition to having co-financed SPOTLIGHT, First Look Media recently announced that Laura Poitras’ RISK will have its world-premiere at the Cannes Film Festival’s Director’s Fortnight. Mr. Robot Creator Sam Esmail is the Executive Producer of RISK, which is produced by Praxis Films in association with First Look Media and Field of Vision.
