Cooke Optics has appointed Hon Ming Lai to the role of director of sales Asia, Australasia, Africa, Middle East, effective immediately. Reporting to Thomas Greiser, director of global sales, Hon Ming will be based in Hong Kong.
At CineAsia 2020, which is underway virtually online November 4-5, GDC Technology is featuring its Red Dot award-winning Espedeo Supra-5000 RGB Plus laser phosphor cinema projector. In addition, GDC will introduce new products designed to automate workflow and provide advanced technologies for cinema operators as the industry prepares to adapt to changing business models.
Christie will feature its wide range of cinema products this week at CineaAsia 2020. Christie says the virtual event, which runs November 4-5, enables the company to reaffirm its support for partners and customers in the Asia Pacific region, as various exhibitors seek to reopen their theatres after extended periods of closure due to COVID-19. CineAsia 2020 also serves as a useful platform for Christie to showcase its cinema technology and services designed to further improve cost of operation.
CineAsia 2020, set to be held December 7-10 in Bangkok, Thailand, has been cancelled by the Film Expo Group. According to the group’s official announcement, “Given ongoing uncertainty over the COVID-19 pandemic and taking into account travel restrictions by governments as well as employers, we feel this is the prudent decision.”
QSC has named Ian Freer field sales engineer (cinema), APAC. In his new role, Freer will be primarily responsible for product support in the Asia Pacific region. He brings a comprehensive career of technical support knowledge, with over twenty years of roles in the cinema industry.

French company CGR Cinemas and Vox Cinemas are partnering to bring a new premium screen concept to the Middle East, Africa and Asia. Vox Cinemas’ parent company is Majid Al Futtaim, the leading shopping mall, communities, retail and leisure pioneer across the region. Their new format is called ICE Theatre, for immersive cinema experience.
Major Cineplex, the largest movie theater operator in Thailand, has invested in Christie’s RealLaser cinema projectors for deployment in its multiplexes in Bangkok.
Lotte Cultureworks, a newly established subsidiary of Lotte Group that oversees the operations of Lotte Cinema, has purchased 120 Christie cinema projectors for deployment in its new multiplexes in South Korea, Vietnam and Indonesia.
