In the wake of the 2016 Toronto International Film Festival, Santa Monica-based Ultramedia and London's SC Films, have signed a distribution deal with Nettai Museum in Japan for the new sci-fi, 2307: Winter’s Dream, written and directed by Joey Curtis. The deal was negotiated by Fumie Suzuki Lancaster for the sales team and Fumiaki Ikeda for the distributor.
This makes Japan the latest international territory where 2307: Winter’s Dream will be released. Ultramedia and SC Films, who handle worldwide rights, have also inked territory distribution deals with Signature in the U.K., Ascot Elite in Germany, Falcon Films in the Middle East, Hagi Film in Poland, Tanweer Ltd. in Turkey, and One2See Movies in Benelux. The team is presently engaged in talks for remaining territories.
Joey Curtis, who also wrote the Academy Award nominated Blue Valentine, will attend a special screening for this, his sophomore directorial outing, on Friday, September 16th at the LA Indie Film Festival, along with the film's star, Paul Sidhu.
Development for 2307: Winter’s Dream began shortly after Curtis, who had recently completed several films, was introduced to Sidhu. The two bonded over a love of Sci-Fi. When Sidhu showed Curtis a story he was writing called Winter's Dream, Curtis fell in love with the concept, and the pair decided to develop it into a feature. Ultramedia 's Robert Beaumont was tapped to produce. Beaumont is a longtime friend and collaborator of Curtis' whom he'd met in film school and worked with on the first film Curtis had written and directed, the Sundance Film Festival winner Quattro Noza and had similarly just finished producing several projects including Helen Hunt's Ride and the 2015 Tribeca Film Festival darling, Emelie.
As the script began to take shape, Curtis realized he'd been contouring the lead character for Sidhu, especially after having seen Sidhu perform at Ivana Chubbuck Studio. When the script was finished, the team cast Sidhu to play Bishop in the film.
Arielle Holmes, who recently starred with Shia LaBeouf in Andrea Arnold's American Honey, the Prix du Jury winner at the 2016 Cannes Film Festival, also joined the cast. Timothy Lee DePriest, who is showcased in HBO's upcoming Westworld series, is featured as well.
2307: Winter’s Dream is an Ultramedia and Thorium 7 Films production in collaboration with Platinum Platypus, Kenneth K. Martinez Burgmaier Productions, and Good Deed Entertainment.
