The American Society of Cinematographers will hold its 36th Annual ASC Awards on March 20, 2022. Recognizing excellence in cinematography, the ASC Awards honor the extraordinary work of directors of photography who have excelled in the art and craft of visual storytelling in feature films, episodics, and documentaries. The annual ceremony will be held at the ASC Clubhouse in Hollywood and live streamed worldwide.
The Motion Picture Sound Editors association is now accepting submissions for its annual Verna Fields Student Award honoring outstanding work by student sound editors. The award, which will be presented at the 69th Annual MPSE Golden Reel Awards ceremony on March 13, 2022, is open to students worldwide with the winner receiving a grant from MPSE’s Ethel Crutcher Scholarship Fund. The award named for legendary sound and picture editor Verna Fields, who won an Academy Award in 1976 for her work on Jaws.
The call for proposals for the Hollywood Professional Association’s Tech Retreat 2022 main program is now open. The HPA Tech Retreat brings together some of the most innovative thinkers in the motion picture industry to discuss, debate, and enjoy new ideas.

The International Cinema Technology Association today announced the 2021-2022 winners of the ICTA EMEA Awards, celebrating technological leadership, design, and innovation in the cinema exhibition sector in Europe, the Middle East and Africa. The Digital Entertainment Group has named Poppy Crum, chief scientist at Dolby Laboratories, the 2021 recipient of the Hedy Lamarr Award for Innovation in Entertainment Technology. In its fifth year, the Hedy Lamarr Award recognizes female executives in the fields of entertainment and technology who have made a significant contribution to the industry.
The winners of FilmLight’s new colorist awards will be announced at EnergaCamerImage 2021 November 13-20 in Torun, Poland. The judging and awards are being organized with the co-operation of the American Society of Cinematographers, the International Federations of Cinematographers and the Colorist Society International. Roberto Schaefer, ASC AIC-Imago, said, “For years I have believed that as cinematographers we need to acknowledge that there is more to creating the best cinematography. The finished product is the work of many talented and artistic individuals who should be recognized in a wide, cross-departmental way. I hope that this will be a beginning.”
