Moody Gardens MG3D Cinema World’s First Museum with 4K 3D 6P Laser Projection

Later this year, Moody Gardens MG3D Cinema will become the world’s first museum-based 4K 3D giant screen 6P laser projection system. The upgrade will replace Moody Gardens’ existing 4K xenon system with a state-of-the-art pair of Christie 4K laser projection heads, a 6P modular laser light farm with fiber optic delivery, Christie 4K 3D high-bitrate server, new giant screen 6P laser glasses, and a new premium white screen. D3D Cinema is systems integrator for the project.

Screenvision Cinema Ad Push Targets Millennials

At its annual upfront event April 2 at New York’s Ziegfeld Theater, cinema advertising company Screenvision outlined its Weekend Daypart concept, calling it “a high impact and essential complement to TV advertising plans.” Additional presentations in Chicago, Los Angeles and Detroit were to take place today. Citing a high awareness of cinema advertising among 18-49 years olds – so-called millennials – one executive said, “When you run an ad on a big screen you know it will be seen.”

AAM Hires Andrew Stucker for Business Development in North America

London-based digital cinema company Arts Alliance Media has appointed Andrew Stucker as business development consultant in North America. Stucker will be based in Los Angeles and will focus on offering AAM’s digital cinema software solutions to exhibitors across the US and Canada. He reports to AAM’s commercial director Eric Stevens.

Movie Theft, “An Ongoing Fight”

In less than two weeks the major movie studios and theatre owners will gather at Caesar’s Palace in Las Vegas for the annual CinemaCon conference, hosted by the National Association of Theatre Owners. Despite the implementation of new laws, new anti-piracy technology, and I heightened industry awareness, the Motion Picture Association of America estimates it loses billions of dollars each year to movie theft, although some people believe the number is in the millions. In any case, theft is theft, and as movie budgets tighten and theatre owners face increased competition, every dollar counts. Via email I recently interviewed Patrick Corcoran, vice president and chief communications officer for the National Association of Theatre Owners about the state of the piracy battle and for a preview of the trade show.
