The American Society of Cinematographers board of governors has elected a new slate of officers, elevating Stephen Lighthill to president of the organization. The Directors Guild of America recently completed a total renovation of its flagship motion picture exhibition space at the prestigious DGA Theatre in Los Angeles. Guided by a guild committee of six leading filmmakers, the renewal project has moved the 600-seat theatre to the forefront of cinema technology with the installation of custom-built Dolby Vision laser projection and a Dolby Atmos immersive sound system encompassing more than 70 Meyer Sound cinema loudspeakers.

Titled Ask a Hollywood Expert, the series features successful, young professionals, across a range of technical disciplines including post production, visual effects and editorial, talking about how they got their start and what they learned as they advanced in their careers.
Estudios GGM, Mexico’s largest independent production facility, is unveiling three new soundstages as it prepares to resume production activity in June. Ranging from 10,000 to 13,000 square feet, the new stages will be the studio’s largest and give it a total of nine shooting spaces. Construction of one stage is already complete while work on the other two will be finished by November when the studio expects to be supporting a full slate of television and feature productions.

New York Women in Film & Television has received a significant grant from the Academy Foundation of the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences. The funding will provide general operating support for the organization and will allow it to further its initiatives in direct response to the COVID-19 pandemic.
Inspired by Michael Connelly’s Harry Bosch novels, the Amazon Prime Video police-procedural series Bosch premiered its sixth season on April 17. The show has also been renewed for a seventh and final season, offering one last outing for the eponymous LAPD homicide detective. Cinematographer Patrick Cady, ASC has been behind the camera for roughly half of the show’s 60 episodes to date, going back to Season 1. From the beginning, Cady and his collaborators have sought to create a sense of realism grounded in the show’s Los Angeles locations.
When he was asked to work on the hit thriller Aadai, India based digital cinema designer and colorist G. Balaji understood the importance of the color grade for the movie’s overall success. With the film, Balaji said he wanted to break the stereotype of how India is shown.
