GDC Technology today launched the all new PSD-4000-SSD series portable storage for its SR-1000 media server.

GDC Technology today launched the all new PSD-4000-SSD series portable storage for its SR-1000 media server. The PSD-4000-SSD is a compact and lightweight portable solid state drive scalable storage device offering three models: 3TB, 4TB and 6TB RAID-5 storage.

The PSD-4000-SSD is easy to install by only connecting the device to the SR-1000 IMB with an eSATA cable. It only weighs 1.5 kilograms (3.3 pounds) and can be easily mounted on DLP Cinema projectors and features redundant hot swappable SSD storage.

GDC’s PSD-4000-SSD Series can support up to 6TB, which can store pre-show advertising, trailers and nearly 40 movies (approx. 150 GB per movie).

The series is based on enterprise RAID-5 hardware with three to four drives allowing the device to remain operational in the event of a single drive failure, thereby minimizing downtime.

Exhibitors can effortlessly move the 1.5kg PSD-4000-SSD box to instantaneously share the entire library of content with other auditoriums. And the PSD-4000-SSD box is space-saving and suitable for boothless cinema design; installation will take a few minutes to complete.

“One of the common chores in cinema operation is replacing hard disk drive and rebuilding RAID. SSD uses up less power and it does not have moving parts, it is more reliable and load content much faster than traditional hard drive,” said Dr. Man Nang Chong, founder, chairman and CEO of GDC Technology Limited. “In the past, exhibitors relied on their hard drives for cinema media server, and when SSD became available, they were out of the financial reach of many. GDC developed cost-effective and reliable SSD storage for cinema application further improving the cinema operation.”
