Dolby and Cineworld/Cinema City today announced plans to install up to 50 new Dolby Atmos screens throughout 2016 and into 2017. The planned Dolby Atmos screens will be installed across the United Kingdom, Central, Eastern Europe and Israel.

“The collaboration with Cineworld is an important example of the exciting momentum we are seeing with Dolby Atmos in Europe and beyond,” said Andreas Spechtler, president Dolby International. “To date, Dolby Atmos has been installed or committed in over 600 screens across EMEA and more than 1800 globally. This is good news for cinema-goers in the UK, CEE and Israel, who will experience the full impact of the director’s work”.

Cineworld/Cinema City is one of the largest cinema operators in Europe, having in total 218 sites and a total of 2,011 fully digital screens, including Super Screen and VIP experience. As part of the planned collaboration, Dolby intends to install Dolby servers and audio processors in up to 100 screens across the group’s sites across Europe.

Ilan Schor, vice president technical of Cineworld Group said, “We are very happy to announce the installation of the Dolby Atmos system in several cinemas. We have no doubt that our audience will enjoy the advanced sound. Our group has been cooperating with Dolby for many years already and we are happy with the opportunity to extend the cooperation to the immersive sound, and looking forward to many more years of fruitful cooperation.”

Dolby Atmos has become the preferred choice for next-generation sound in the cinema, with major studios, award-winning filmmakers, and exhibitors from around the world embracing its approach. To date, more than 1,800 screens worldwide have been installed or committed to be equipped with Dolby Atmos and more than 465 Dolby Atmos titles have been announced globally.
