Poser, the debut film of directing partners Ori Segev and Noah Dixon, is a music-driven psychodrama about obsession, and the need to fit in and be a part of something. The film was selected to compete in the Tribeca Film Festival’s 2021 US Narrative Competition and made its world premiere there June 10th. The creative team of Adam Robl and Shawn Sutta composed the film’s score.

Christie Providing Projection Support for 24th Shanghai International Film Festival

Christie is partnering with the Shanghai International Film Festival for the 13th consecutive year. This year’s festival, themed The Film Art of Centennial Glory on a Ceaseless Journey, will run from June 11-20. More than 400 films from around the world will be screened in 40 cinemas located across Shanghai during this period, including those equipped with the Cinity Cinema System and Dolby Cinema, which utilizes Christie projection.

Arsenal FX Color provided post-production finishing services for Ferguson Rises, director Mobolaji Olambiwonnu’s inspiring documentary about Ferguson, Missouri which in 2014 became a flashpoint for the civil rights movement after a white police officer was acquitted of criminal charges in the killing of Michael J. Brown, an unarmed black man, sparking days of protest and rage. Says Olambiwonnu, I wanted to provide a counternarrative to the events that took place, one based not on loss, but on hope and resilience.”

Cherokee Nation Offering Prize for Best Indigenous Short Film

Cherokee Nation Film Office and deadCenter Film, the state’s largest film festival, have partnered to recognize Indigenous filmmakers with the festival’s inaugural award for Best Indigenous Short Film. This year’s honoree will be recognized and awarded a $1,000 cash prize, provided by the generosity of the Cherokee Nation, on Sunday during the festival’s annual award show.

AFI Announces Docs Talks, Industry Forum for Annual Festival

AFI Docs — the American Film Institute's documentary film festival — has announced its Docs Talks and Industry Forum events for its 19th edition, June 22-27. The inaugural Docs Talks section will feature the World Premiere of Netflix’s and Higher Ground Production’s We the People, as well as History Is Out of the Closet: Excavating Queer Stories for the Screen, a live stream conversation celebrating LGBTQ+ pride. Docs Talks events are free.

New York Indian Film Festival Begins June 4

The New York Indian Film Festival kicks off June 4-13 with 58 screenings and interactive discussions. Presented by the Indo-American Arts Council and powered by MovieSaints, NYIFF celebrates the 21st year of independent, art house, alternate cinema from India and brings this rich collection of films to audiences in the U.S. and North America. Some films will also stream globally.

AFI Docs Announces Film Choices for 19th Annual Festival

AFI Docs, the American Film Institute's annual documentary celebration in the nation's capital, has announced the Opening Night, Closing Night and Centerpiece Films for its 19th annual edition. As previously announced, this year's hybrid festival will include limited in-person screenings at the AFI Silver Theatre and Cultural Center in Silver Spring, Maryland, as well as a full slate of virtual offerings. AFI Docs runs June 22–27, 2021.

Göteborg Presents New Film Fund

Beginning today, May 10, filmmakers from four different parts of the world will be able to submit their applications to Göteborg Film Fund 2021. The fund aims to contribute to a diversified media landscape, with increased artistic freedom and free speech. During severe crisis the area of culture often is deprioritized. The on-going pandemic has severely affected the access to distribution channels as well as financing for film production. A situation that may undermine democracy, especially in regions with an unstable economic or political system.
