AFI Docs Names Audience Award Winners

The AFI Docs five-day festival wrapped up this week in the Washington, DC area. This year's Audience Award for Best Feature went to What Happened, Miss Simone? directed by Liz Garbus. This year's Audience Award for Best Short went to A Conversation with My Black Son directed by Blair Foster and Geeta Gandbhir. With 81 films from 25 countries, the festival brought together artists, national policy and opinion leaders along with global representatives.

Barco Escape to Barcelona

As European motion picture professionals gather in Barcelona this week for the start of CineEurope 2015, Barco will once again be highlighting the Barco Escape format, arguably one of the hits of this year’s CinemaCon in Las Vegas. Prior to CineEurope I got a progress report from Barco executives and some Escape customers about the new format and how exhibitors and audiences have responded to it so far.

PlantPure Nation Set for June 25 Release in U.S. and Canada

The documentary feature film PlantPure Nation will premiere June 25 at The Arclight Hollywood. Written and directed by Nelson Campbell and including the producer and writer of Forks Over Knives, the 95-minute film examines the political and economic factors that suppress information on the benefits of plant-based nutrition, while making the connections of this idea to larger issues such as medical practice, farming, and food deserts. The film's story follows three people working to spread the word about one of the most important health breakthroughs of all time.

Regal Cinemas L.A. Live Stadium 14’s Revenues Triple in 4DX Auditorium

AEG-owned Regal Cinemas L.A. Live Stadium 14, home to the first and only 4DX-equipped theatre in the United States, says it has tripled its revenue in the first year using CJ 4DPlex technology. The 104-seat 4DX auditorium at Regal Cinemas L.A. Live has achieved $1.52 million in revenue attracting 70,000 attendees since opening last year, representing an increase of 88 percent in attendance versus the previous 12 months in the same auditorium prior to the conversion. Jurassic World is now playing in the theatre as it celebrates its first anniversary as a 4DX venue.
