DVS Arri Certify SpycerBox for ArriScan

DVS and Arri have announced the certification of SpycerBox as a high-performance storage solution for ArriScan speeding up post-production workflows through the interaction between the two systems. Scanned footage can be transferred directly from ArriScan to the SpycerBox via InfiniBand making it immediately available for further processing. Footage is scanned in and provided directly to the digital workflow. ArriScan handles scanning processes at high speed. The SpycerBox connected via InfiniBand stores the high-quality footage data.

IDC OpenSky Announce Deal for Digital Cinema Satellite Delivery in Europe

International Datacasting Corporation has announced that it has signed a memorandum of understanding with OpenSky based in Italy for the provision of IDC's broadband satellite technology for the rollout of a new digital cinema distribution network in Europe. The MOU has been consummated with an initial order of uplink broadcast equipment and an initial deployment of IDC's satellite receivers to multiple theatres across Italy. Financial details of the MOU were not disclosed for competitive reasons. OpenSky is a European satellite service provider with headquarters in Italy.

Petrol Unveils Its Raincover Weather Protection Tool

Petrol a Vitec Group brand has introduced the PRC-EX1 transparent Raincover a weather protection device for Sony PMW-EX1 and HVR-Z7 cameras. 

Petrol's one-piece design makes the Raincover easy to install even while shooting. Constructed largely of clear polyurethane for maximum visibility the PRC-EX1 offers quick access to all camera features and enables work with the flip out LCD screen fully open. A hot shoe connector in the cover's rigid front hood section anchors and stabilizes it on camera. At the rear durable waterproof rubber fabric surrounds and protects the viewfinder.

Doremi Licenses IDC Streaming Software for use with AccessIT’s CineLive 3D

Doremi Cinema has announced a licensing agreement with International Datacasting Corporation for the integration of real-time streaming software into its line of SuperFlex Pro Cinema products. The pact also enables Doremi to embed Sensio Live 3D decoding technology into Doremi digital cinema servers for CineLive 3D AccessIT's newest solution for theatre owners. Doremi's software is integral to CineLive 3D. It will allow theatres to play live 3D alternative content to multiple screens simultaneously. Today's solutions require hardware for each screen that is to receive a broadcast event.

Ballantyne Sees Third Quarter Film-Based Revenue Decline Digital Revenue Increase

Ballantyne of Omaha has reported financial results for the third quarter and nine months ended September 30th. Net third quarter revenues were $12.3 million a 2.4 percent decrease from net revenues of $12.6 million in Q3 2007 principally reflecting an expected decline in film-based products.

Q-tec Completes First Installation of RealD’s 3D System in Japan

Q-tec Inc. one of Japan's leading video post-production service providers announced that it has completed the first domestic installation of 3D cinema system developed by digital 3D delivery company RealD. Q-tec plans to begin the full-scale operation this month. The number of digital 3D cinema screens in Japan was around 30 at the end of 2007 but there are currently more than 50 screens available as the United States film Journey to the Center of the Earth 3D was released in October. The number is projected to rise with the expectation of 3D films produced and released in Japan.

Zacuto Announces Four New Camera Mounts

Chicago-based production equipment maker Zacuto has announced four new mounts including the Zephyr Zacuto's 15mm lightweight support plate; the ZRed an EVF Red One Mount; the Zandy a19mm to 15mm rod mount; and the Zgrip Zandy an articulating handgrip. Zephyr Replacing the Sony and Panasonic ENG style cameras’ V-Wedge plate the Zephyr allows a quick-release from the tripod plate.
