Creating a Naturalistic Look

Writer/director Paul Shoulberg’s vision for his feature The Good Catholic was to have it not look like a typical romantic comedy, but to take on a more naturalistic look and feel. To help achieve that vision, cinematographer Justin Montgomery, who worked with Shoulberg on a previous short project, selected Cooke’s S4/i prime lenses to take advantage of their warmth and bokeh, giving images a creamy quality with sharpness.

Venice is the next generation of Sony’s CineAlta camera systems, designed to expand the filmmaker’s creative freedom through immersive, large-format, Full Frame capture of filmic imagery producing natural skin tones, elegant highlight handling and wide dynamic range. Venice was designed through close collaboration with the creative community, fulfilling the requirements from filmmakers and production professionals.

The Color of Tulip Fever

Technicolor in London has completed post on Tulip Fever, a romantic period drama from The Weinstein Company and directed by Justin Chadwick. As well as performing the grade, conform and deliverables, Jean-Clément Soret, MPC’s global creative director of color grading, was also responsible for completing the trailers, allowing the audience to be immersed in the look and feel of the movie from the preview onwards.

As a Foley mixer, Geordy Sincavage has worked on a variety of films and television series throughout his career, including The Revenant, and HBO original series' The Leftovers and Westworld. Sincavage is the owner of Sinc Sound, a sound effects company that records ambient sound for productions, without using an audio library.

SMPTE Names 2017 Fellows

SMPTE today announced that it will elevate 12 industry leaders to the status of SMPTE Fellow. This honor is conferred on individuals who have, through their proficiency and contributions to the industry, attained an outstanding rank among members of the Society.
