SmartJog Apuntolapospo Sign Distribution Deal in Spain

SmartJog has signed with Spanish mastering lab Apuntolapospo to use SmartJog’s delivery platform service to distribute digital cinema preshow content trailers and feature films directly to theaters connected in Spain. Currently 145 Spanish theatres are connected to SmartJog’s distribution system. The company has contracts with a total of 270 theatres in Spain.
 Digital Cinema content is sent through the SmartJog community using its file transfer network via satellite and ADSL/Fiber which includes a web-based file management interface monitoring and support and cloud-storage solutions. The service gives clients the opportunity to electronically receive their DCPs without having to manage physical ones (HDD).

 This partnership will represent new business opportunities for Apuntolapospo and a major technical improvement in content reception and expedition in a secure way between their origin and final destination in theaters all over the globe. It also represents the beginning of a new kind of service offer for our clients based on the importance of managing library content ” says Mª Rosa Fusté CEO of Apuntolapospo.

Penny Marshall to Receive Camera Operators Lifetime Achievement Award,2013-02-28, The Society of Camera Operators has announced that the 2013 Governors Award for Lifetime Achievement will be presented to Penny Marshall. The ceremony will take place March 9 at The Leonard Goldenson Theatre at the Academy of Television Arts and Sciences in North Hollywood California. The SOC honors her commitment dedication and mastery of the art and craft as producer director and actress with their Governors Award for a true Lifetime of Achievement. Penny Marshall born into a show business family began her acting career in the television situation comedy The Odd Couple and as title character Laverne in the hit show Laverne and Shirley. Marshall first turned to directing feature films with Jumpin’ Jack Flash at the urging of friend Whoopi Goldberg. Her biggest box office hits soon followed with Awakenings Big and A League of Their Own.

Thurso Cinema Signs VPF Deal with Sony,2013-02-28, The Thurso Cinema the UK mainland’s most northerly cinema has signed up to a Virtual Print Fee deal with Sony Digital Cinema. The independent cinema which recently re-opened will install two SRX-R515 4K cinema projectors.

Sound City Tops iTunes Documentary List Two Weeks in a Row ,2013-02-28,Named one of the Best Movies of 2013 by film site Rotten Tomatoes with a 100 percent fresh tomato meter Dave Grohl’s directorial debut Sound City remains atop the iTunes documentary charts for the second week in a row in the U.S. and 15 countries and jumped to the top spot of the Amazon Documentary chart in Blu-ray pre-orders. Athena Studios Hosts VFX Presentation,2013-03-14, Athena Studios played host to a special event produced by the Bay Area Chapter of the Visual Effects Society last month. During the event visual effects director of photography Carl Miller delivered a hands-on presentation entitled VFX - Keeping it Real. More than 45 people attended the presentation including VFX professionals from Pixar Tippett Studios and 32Ten Studios. David Tanaka Bay Area/Northern California section chairman of the Visual Effects Society introduced Miller. During the presentation Miller discussed how the lines between CG and practical effects continue to blur with the advent of digital cinema. He explored the evolution of VFX photography from its practical roots through the advent of motion control and CGI citing examples from Star Wars Episode II: Attack of The Clones  and then moving into the latest developments in affordable digital cinema hardware. Miller also talked about how the tools and methodologies of pre-visualization and pre-planning help to keep CGI and practical VFX collaborative creative and affordable. In addition Miller stressed how to “keep things realistic ” so that cinematic stories may be believable and convincing. “We were delighted to have hosted this extremely insightful event at Athena Studios ” said Jon V.
