The Society of Camera Operators has announced that the 2013 Governors Award for Lifetime Achievement will be presented to Penny Marshall. The ceremony will take place March 9 at The Leonard Goldenson Theatre at the Academy of Television Arts and Sciences in North Hollywood California. The SOC honors her commitment dedication and mastery of the art and craft as producer director and actress with their Governors Award for a true Lifetime of Achievement. Penny Marshall born into a show business family began her acting career in the television situation comedy The Odd Couple and as title character Laverne in the hit show Laverne and Shirley. Marshall first turned to directing feature films with Jumpin’ Jack Flash at the urging of friend Whoopi Goldberg. Her biggest box office hits soon followed with Awakenings Big and A League of Their Own.

This year the SOC salutes Women in the Industry.
