American Documentary Receives Eight Emmy Nominations

The National Academy of Television Arts & Sciences has announced that American Documentary has received eight nominations for documentary films featured in its POV and America ReFramed series in the 44th News & Documentary Emmy Awards.

The National Academy of Television Arts & Sciences has announced that American Documentary has received eight nominations for documentary films featured in its POV and America ReFramed series in the 44th News & Documentary Emmy Awards.The nominated titles, covering six categories, is:  Accepted, Delikado, The Last Out, Let the Little Light Shine, Not Going Quietly, Sapelo and Wuhan Wuhan.  

PBS received a total of 26 nominations. POV, currently celebrating its 36th anniversary as America’s longest running documentary series, and America ReFramed, marking its 11th season, have previously received 46 Emmy Awards.

"We are honored to have the academy recognize our programming and continued advocacy for the filmmakers and storytellers whose authentic voices and unique perspectives provide thought-provoking, artfully crafted and timely documentaries for audiences around the country,” said Erika Dilday, executive producer of POV and America ReFramed and executive director of American Documentary. “These nominations are a testament to the POV and America ReFramed vision, our values, and the remarkable talent of these filmmakers in the AmDoc family who are front and center to our mission and whose compelling stories connect us to some of the most pressing issues of our time."

POV films and projects have won 46 Emmy Awards, 27 George Foster Peabody Awards, 15 Alfred I. duPont-Columbia University Awards, three Academy Awards and the first-ever George Polk Documentary Film Award and the Prix Italia since its launch in 1988.

The POV series has been honored with a Special News & Documentary Emmy Award for Excellence in Television Documentary Filmmaking, three IDA Awards for Best Curated Series and the National Association of Latino Independent Producers Award for Corporate Commitment to Diversity.

America ReFramed has earned awards across media and journalism fields including a Peabody and a duPont award, along with an IDA Documentary Award, a Kaleidoscope Award presented by the Radio, Television, Digital News Association, three Christopher Awards and seven National Native Media Awards and an Asian American Journalist Association Award.
