DMS Chooses Christie Projection for X-Men Premiere

Christie has been selected by preferred partner Digital Media Systems to provide the 3D digital cinema projection technology for the world premiere of 20th Century Fox’s film X-Men: Days of Future Past on Saturday, May 10. DMS will transform the River Pavilion at the Jacob Javits Convention Center into a theater to screen the highly anticipated X-Men sequel, with two Christie Solaria Series digital cinema projectors onto a 26-foot by 62-foot screen.

MasterImage 3D Granted Korean Patent for MI-Horizon3D

MasterImage 3D today announced the approval by the Korean Intellectual Property Office of its key patents 10-1387096 and 10-1387097. This newly patented 3D process is the technology behind MasterImage 3D’s MI-Horizon3D digital cinema system. The MI-Horizon3D debuted this year at the annual CinemaCon tradeshow in Las Vegas, demonstrating the potential for cinemas to deliver up to 14 foot-lambert 3D.

Seattle Cinerama to Premiere Douglas Trumbull’s UFOTOG

Paul G. Allen’s iconic Seattle Cinerama Theater has announced its second annual Science Fiction Festival, running May 1-12, with 12 days of special programming. The festival will be highlighted by the world premiere of Douglas Trumbull’s short film UFOTOG, along with screening of more than three-dozen of the science fiction genre's most beloved movies and celebrity appearances by Jonathan Frakes, Tom Skerritt and Sam J. Jones

Royal Films and Bardan Select Doremi for Deployment of 130 Screens

As the South American market continues to rapidly expand, Doremi has reached a major agreement with Royal Films, one of Colombia’s largest cinema operators, through Bardan Cinema, one of Latin America’s largest integrators. Further expanding Doremi’s presence in the continent, this agreement adds 130 ShowVault/ IMB servers to Royal Film’s theaters.

Barco Adds Alchemy to Digital Cinema Projector Line

Barco has introduced what the company is calling “a groundbreaking update” for its digital cinema projector families. Named Barco Alchemy, this new generation combines media server functionalities with cinema processing electronics to further increase reliability and ease-of-use in the projection booth. The Barco Alchemy technology is fully compatible with all new and installed Series 2 Barco projectors. The company says that the 4K Barco Alchemy projectors are the first to show 4K movies at 60 frames per second and 4K 3D content on a single projector.
