Sony Unveils High-Def Camera and Recording System for Professional Video Applications 
 
 In an effort to help filmmakers save money per recording minute Sony plans to make available in February a new full high-definition compact point-of-view camera and solid-state recorder combination the HXR-MC1. Its video compression will afford its users longer recording time per GB as well as a low cost of media per minute.

Nearly 8 000 Attend 29th American Film Market

Overall attendance for the 29th American Film Market was 7 903 announced Jonathan Wolf managing director of the AFM and executive vice president of the Independent Film & Television Alliance.
 
A total of 1 527 buyers representing 65 countries attended which was held last month in Santa Monica California. Buyers from the Middle East grew 25 percent from last year to 40 from 32. Notable year-to-year buyer attendance from other territories included Russia up 14 percent Germany up seven percent Hong Kong up 42 percent and Korea up 18 percent.

JVC Sensio are Co-Developing 3D Technology for the Home

JVC has announced an agreement with Sensio Technologies to join forces and offer what the manufacturers are calling “the very first high-end 3D solution available on the consumer market.” The entirely new product is designed to allow consumers to watch 3D at home by combining two of JVC's D-ILA projectors and a media server integrating the Sensio 3D decoding technology.

Peace Arch Entertainment to Receive Government Funding

Peace Arch Entertainment Group an integrated global entertainment company has announced that Telefilm Canada has made Peace Arch Releasing eligible for the Canadian Feature Film Marketing Fund. The federal culture agency’s official recognition of Peace Arch’s theatrical distribution arm will permit the company to seek financial support for the domestic release of Canadian-produced films.

S3 Entertainment Group Yessian Music/Dragon Licks Create Michigan Music Licensing

S3 Entertainment Group of Ferndale Michigan has teamed up with Yessian Music/Dragon Licks Detroit to form Michigan Music Licensing. S3 managing partner Jeffrey Spilman and Yessian president Michael Yessian jointly made the announcement.

Michigan Music Licensing will provide clients with a one-stop solution to license enhance edit mix or rearrange songs for feature film and television productions. The company will now offer productions the highest tax incentive in the country an average of 40 percent when utilizing their Michigan-based music and licensing.

Schneider Introduces Century HD Lens Add-ons for Sony PMW-EX3

Schneider Optics has introduced a line of Century HD lens add-ons for Sony's new PMW-EX3 camcorder. These attachments are designed to expand the capabilities of the Fujinon 14x lens supplied with the camera. Operators can increase the field of view with no loss of ability to zoom instantly shift the focal range to telephoto when needed or enjoy the ultra wide angle of view and remarkable barrel distortion of the widest fisheye.

LaserPacific Forms New Business Unit for Digital Mastering

LaserPacific Media Corporation has announced the formation of a new team and business unit to focus on digital motion picture mastering and re-mastering. With this expanded capability LaserPacific CEO Brian Burr also announced the appointment of Ron Burdett as general manager of the mastering unit and Lou Levinson as the supervising colorist - mastering among others. Burr says the company has added some of the industry's most capable and accomplished operations and creative talent to its team.

ZON Lusomundo and XDC to Deploy 180 Digital Screens in Portugal

Digital cinema service company XDC and ZON Lusomundo the largest cinema chain in Portugal have signed an exclusive agreement for the deployment of digital cinema systems in 180 of ZON Lusomundo's cinema screens in Portugal. The agreement includes the roll out of DCI-compliant projection systems co-financed by the Virtual Print Fee model. The rollout is scheduled to begin in January with an initial commitment of 100 screens throughout the rest of the year.
