Reading Signs VPF Agreement with Cinedigm to Convert Arthouses

Reading International which runs some of the nations most prestigious and successful independent arthouses has signed a long-term virtual print fee deployment agreement with Cinedigm.   Under the terms of the agreement contemplates that Reading through its affiliates will deploy up to 253 digital systems with installation expected to be completed by the end of 2012.

Douglas Sloan’s Saigon ’68 Premieres at DOC NYC Festival

Douglas Sloan’s latest effort Saigon ’68 premiered this week at the DOC NYC Festival. “One image had a radical effect on two peoples lives and was said to be the photo that stopped the Vietnam War ” Sloan says. “Eddie Adams said ‘photographs do lie’ after watching this film. I hope there will be a healthy debate about whether or not viewers   agree.

SD&A Conference Announces Advance Program

The Stereoscopic Displays and Applications conference has announced the advance program for its February 2013 event. Spanning three days from February 4-6 the conference will highlight a wide range of technical development in the stereoscopic imaging field. Themes in the technical program include: Auto stereoscopic and Volumetric Displays 3D Image Quality 3D User Studies 3D Games Applications 3D Content and Coding and Multi-layer 3D Displays. The 3D Theatre session at each year’s SD&A conference is one of the conference’s most popular sessions.

Theatre Service Network Installs Cinedigm EMS

Syufy Drive-Ins Now All Digital

Syufy Enterprises which operates drive-in theaters located in California Arizona and Nevada is converting all of its outdoor screens to digital projection. Independent equipment integrator and installer Moving Image Technologies is supplying Barco DP2K-32B projectors for the transition. “Although we’d worked diligently to optimize the quality of our film projectors the crispness sharpness and color rendition of the Barco digital projectors are taking us to an amazing new level of image quality.

Illinois Theatre Makes Digital Transition

Illinois Theater the longest-operating movie theater in the city of Jacksonville Illinois is making the transition to digital cinema. Illinois Theater first opened its doors in the late 1800’s as the Grand Opera House. It was renamed the Illinois Theater in 1927 when it was owned and operated by the Fox Theatre Corporation.  A decade later the theater was demolished by a fire and again reopened in 1939.

Cooking Up Unique Color Grading

Thanks to a high-speed cloud network that allows colorists to work in a collaborative environment with grading tasks distributed in a unique manner. “I equate our workflow to a restaurant ” says Encore’s senior colorist Pankaj Bajpai. “I’m like the head chef. I design recipes to satisfy the tastes of our customers. But we also have sous chefs dessert chefs and line cooks. We’ve worked it out so that everyone is aware of what’s needed and at the end it all returns to me. I finish every shot.
