Documenting Surf Photography

Filmmaker Kellen Keene is dedicated to documenting artistic endeavors through his visuals. Recently he was inspired to go behind-the-scenes with surfer and photographer Chris Burkard to show what it is like to be a surf photographer and to showcase how some of the images Burkard shoots are made. Keene knew every shot had to be in the moment so he wanted a shooting package that could keep up with the quixotic personality of the surf. “That’s why we shot most of the project on the Canon 5D Mark II and Nikon d800s ” he says. “We also used the new GoPro 3.

The Fox Berkshire theatre Reading Pennsylvania has upgraded all of its eight screens exclusively with Christie Solaria Series projectors. Formerly the Wyomissing 8 the facility recently celebrated its return to the Fox Theatres family after being under different management since 1996.  Entertainment Supply & Technology served as the movie house’s integrator and selected Christie’s Managed Services team to install eight DCI-compliant Christie projectors including two CP2230s one CP2220 and five CP2210s.

A major portion of director Todd Robinson’s submarine thriller Phantom starring recent Golden Globe Award-winning actor Ed Harris was filmed in the confines of an actual Russian submarine. Blocking became extremely important for cinematographer Byron Werner and gaffer Steve Lundgren while down in the cramped sub. They had to have a very precise lighting approach. If an actor missed his mark by inches he would be out of his lighting.

Thurso Cinema Signs VPF Deal with Sony

The Thurso Cinema the UK mainland’s most northerly cinema has signed up to a Virtual Print Fee deal with Sony Digital Cinema. The independent cinema which recently re-opened will install two SRX-R515 4K cinema projectors.
 
 Rob Arthur managing director of The Thurso Cinema said “Bringing digital cinema to Caithness is a big deal as we can now offer a range of entertainment content that appeals to a broader audience and ensures that the cinema is in use all day every day throughout the year.

Sound City Tops iTunes Documentary List Two Weeks in a Row

Named one of the Best Movies of 2013 by film site Rotten Tomatoes with a 100 percent fresh tomato meter Dave Grohl’s directorial debut Sound City remains atop the iTunes documentary charts for the second week in a row in the U.S. and 15 countries and jumped to the top spot of the Amazon Documentary chart in Blu-ray pre-orders.
