Samsung Selects Arri Alexa Footage to Showcase Onyx Cinema LED Screens

Samsung has selected footage captured with Arri Alexa cameras to showcase their Onyx 4K cinema LED displays. By using an array of modular LED panels to replace cinema projectors, the Samsung Cinema LED displays offer a completely new format of a cinema screen to enhance movie experiences. The technology displays Ultra Contrast with true blacks, high dynamic range and P3 color with supreme accuracy.

Cameron Shooting Avatar Sequels with Sony Venice

James Cameron’s Lightstorm Entertainment will use Sony’s new Venice motion picture camera system for principal photography on the upcoming Avatar sequels. The first Avatar movie, released in 2009 and also shot on Sony professional cameras, shattered box office records with its compelling story, immersive 3D and stunning visuals. These newest entries in the franchise promise to up the visual ante significantly with enhanced special effects, more elaborate production requirements and challenging live action sequences.

Avengers: Infinity War Sets 4DX Records

According to CJ 4DPlex, the new film Marvel Studios’ Avengers: Infinity War has been seen in the 4DX immersive seating format by more than two million people across 59 countries. This breaks the record for highest-attendance 4DX film to date. The milestone also makes Avengers: Infinity War the most successful film released in the format, surpassing the previous record holder, 2015’s Star Wars: The Force Awakens.

Sony Restores Classic WWII Era Film

Sony Pictures Entertainment recently completed a 4K restoration of None Shall Escape, the 1943 Columbia Pictures drama widely credited as the first film to address the subject of the Nazi Holocaust. The newly restored film recently had its world premiere at the TCM Classic Film Festival in Hollywood, with one of the film’s stars, 100-year-old actress Marsha Hunt, in attendance.

Panasonic Announces EVA1 Video Contest for U.S. and EU Filmmakers

Panasonic has announced the AU-EVA1 Share Your Vision Video Contest, open to video professionals throughout the United States and European Union countries. To participate, contestants should register at https://eva1contest.hscampaigns.com/ and submit videos shot with the Panasonic EVA1 cinema camera from 25 seconds to five minutes in length from June 1 through August 24, 2018.

Pace Pictures Opens New Hollywood Facility

Independent post-production company Pace Pictures has opened a new sound and picture finishing facility in Hollywood. The 20,000 square foot site offers editorial finishing, color grading, visual effects, titling, sound editorial and sound mixing services. Key resources include a 20-seat, 4K color grading theater, two additional HDR color-grading suites and ten editorial finishing suites. It also features a Dolby Atmos mix stage designed by three-time Academy Award-winning re-recording mixer Michael Minkler, who is a partner in the company’s sound division.
