EFA Partners has announced that it led and advised the recently closed financing facility for Malco Theatres to fund the conversion of more than 320 screens at 30 locations throughout the Southeastern United States. “EFA’s unique knowledge and experience with film exhibition and digital cinema was extremely helpful in leading our financing process ” says Bobby Levy executive vice president of Malco Theatres.

Lucasfilm and Prime Focus have announced that they are collaborating on the 3D conversion of Star Wars: Episode I The Phantom Menace for theatrical release Prime Focus was selected by Lucasfilm and Industrial Light & Magic following an exhaustive testing process. Utilizing Prime Focus' proprietary View-D process the conversion is scheduled to hit 3D theatre screens on February 10 2012. It was incredibly important to me that we have the technology the resources and the time to do this right says Star Wars creator George Lucas.
The Manhattan Film Festival has launched a Filmmaker Revenue Sharing Program. Since their inception they have made it a priority to find new ways to help filmmakers make a career out of filmmaking. While not an easy task they believe their new program is the game-changer they have been searching for. The platform they have built has the potential to yield filmmakers tens of thousands of dollars. The Filmmaker Revenue Sharing Program will allow filmmakers to promote and sell festival tickets while earning 50 percent of the revenue.

Rushes Post Production London has purchased a diTTo evolution film scanner from Cintel International. The diTTo evolution will scan 35mm 2 3 and 4-perf film as well as 16mm film to 2K and 4K data for grading in the Resolve Color Correction suite. Rushes’ technical director Tim Wharton says “Image quality is the major consideration in everything we do at Rushes and the images from diTTo evolution are second to none.

Celebrating over a decade of cinema under-the-stars the 12th Annual Maui Film Festival is carrying on its tradition of presenting great films and artists on one of the world's most beautiful islands from June 15-19 at the Wailea Resort. Screenings will also again take place at the Maui Arts & Cultural Center in Kahului.
Titan Worldwide Entertainment will begin shooting the El Chico Blanco in June it was announced by chairman and CEO Brad Feinstein. El Chico Blanco tells the story of Ben Harper a white outcast raised in the barrio rises to a position of power against all odds. During a stint in prison he overcomes racial tension and biases to become the head of a notorious crime family entering into a world of drugs wealth and power. The film will be shot on location in New Mexico.

Dolby Laboratories today announced the availability of its next-generation 3D glasses. The glasses are compatible with Dolby 3D Digital Cinema systems currently installed. Dolby has partnered with 3M to develop a new multilayer optical film lens that greatly reduces the weight of the glasses increasing comfort while providing the excellent optical performance moviegoers expect from Dolby 3D.
Unique Screen Media the cinema advertising subsidiary of Cinedigm will be B&B Theatres’ exclusive agent for in-theatre and web-based advertising services. Terms of the long-term agreement are not being disclosed. Celebrating its 87th year in business B&B Theatres operates 30 movie theatres with more than 200 auditoriums throughout Missouri Oklahoma Kansas and Florida. Last October B&B opened an all-digital theatre in Wildwood Missouri complete with two Marquee Suites auditoriums catering exclusively to the over-21 movie patron.
Cinedigm Digital Cinema announced today that they are producing and distributing what the company says will be the first widely released music performance in live 3D when Foo Fighters perform their entire new album Wasting Light to be shown in more than 80 theatres nationwide on April 5th. The concert will follow the debut of their documentary Foo Fighters: Back and Forth. Cinedigm is presenting the documentary along with Exclusive Media Group RCA Records and Spitfire Pictures.

GunMetal Industries has released the GunMetal Pipe Bomb 3D a professional HD-based 3D camera system that uses distinct dual-camera (left eye/right eye) recording in an extraordinarily small package. The manufacturer says the Pipe Bomb cameras are a major contrast to the complicated other 3D cameras on the market today. Sensio Technologies has announced the continued expansion of its 3D Live Network which now includes more than 750 screens. The Montreal company is partnering with Circuit George Raymond to add its network of 34 multiplexes enabling access to live 3D events for the inhabitants of 34 French cities. The first event of the new partnership was the last match of the 2011 RBS 6 Nations Championships pitting France against Wales at the Stade de France which was screened on March 19th.
The Amazing Spider-Man directed by Marc Webb now in production from Columbia Pictures under the direction of Marc Webb Directed by Marc Webb the film is using 3ality Digital’s new TS-5 wireless and handheld beam splitter mirror rig. Award-winning cinematographer John Schwartzman the film’s director of photography chose the TS-5 because of its small size and the control it gives over the stereoscopic 3D image. Schwartzman and the production team held a series of tests using the TS-5 and found it could shoot in 3D but perform at the same speed as in 2D.
