In a week or so, industry professionals from around the world will gather at Caesar’s Palace in Las Vegas for this year’s CinemaCon, the annual convention of the National Association of Theatre Owners. There, from April 1-4, they will discuss the latest issues, trends and technologies in motion picture distribution and exhibition. For many of them, new technology will be the focus of their attention. This year’s technology conversations seem certain to include three acronyms in particular: HFR, LED and HDR. Chances are, technology centered on one of these will earn a Catalyst Award. But there are always surprises at CinemaCon.
Cinema-industry veteran Susie Beiersdorf, vice president of sales, cinema – The Americas, Christie, has been selected as the 2019 recipient of the Ken Mason Inter-Society Award. The Ken Mason Award honors an individual who has made outstanding long-term contributions leading to the overall improvement of the motion picture experience. The announcement was made today by Paul Holliman, president, The Inter-Society for the Enhancement of Cinema Presentation. Beiersdorf will receive the award at a ceremony held at CinemaCon in Las Vegas on April 4.
Anthony Bloom, chairman Cineworld Group, will receive this year’s Lifetime Achievement Award at CinemaCon 2019. Mitch Neuhauser, managing director of the show made the announcement. CinemaCon, the official convention of the National Association of Theatre Owners, will be held April 1-4 at Caesars Palace in Las Vegas. Bloom will be presented with this honor during opening night festivities.

In its 14th year of supporting the National Film and Theatre School, this year’s Christie’s prize for Most Promising NFTS Student was awarded to graduating composer, Will Turner. Turner received a Christie DHD599-GS projector.
The Motion Pictures Sound Editors presented the 66th MPSE Annual Golden Reel Awards at a black-tie ceremony at the Bonaventure Hotel in Los Angeles last Saturday night. Golden Reel Awards recognizing outstanding achievement in sound editing were presented in 23 categories encompassing feature films, long-form and short-form television, animation, documentaries, games, special venue and other media.
Helen Moss, senior vice president of international distribution, Paramount Pictures will receive this year’s Passepartout Award. Mitch Neuhauser, managing director of CinemaCon made the announcement. The award is presented annually to an industry executive who demonstrates dedication and commitment to the international marketplace. Claiming the coveted Theatrical Award for best cinematography in a motion picture, Łukasz Żal, PSC took home the American Society of Cinematographers Award for his work on Cold War. Giorgi Shvelidze took the Spotlight Award for Namme. The 33 rd ASC Awards gala took place Saturday in the Ray Dolby Ballroom in Hollywood

The event recognizes outstanding international achievement in the creation of immersive storytelling using advanced visual technologies.
