The Society of Camera Operators will give cinematographer Steven Poster, ASC, the society’s 2019 Distinguished Service Award. The award will be presented January 18 at the Loews Hollywood Hotel.
The Hollywood Professional Association has announced that Robert Legato, the legendary visual effects supervisor and renowned creative, will receive the organization’s Lifetime Achievement Award at the HPA Awards during a gala evening at the Skirball Center in Los Angeles on November 21st. Now in its 14th year, the HPA Awards recognize creative artistry, innovation and engineering excellence in the media content industry. The Lifetime Achievement Award honors the recipients’ dedication to the betterment of the industry.
The International Cinema Technology Association has presented Christie Digital Systems with its Teddy Award as Manufacturer of the Year. The award is voted on by active members of the ICTA and presented annually to the ICTA manufacturer which “most closely exemplifies the progressive principals of product development and provides the dealers with service and up-to-date technical and sales information, while supporting the status of its product without qualification.”
The IBC2019 International Honor for Excellence will go to Andy Serkis, the director, producer and actor who is today best known for his performance capture roles. These include Gollum, Supreme Leader Snoke, King Kong and Caesar in the Planet of the Apes series.

DPA’s 6066 Subminiature Headset Microphone was a winner in the Product Design category at the Red Dot Awards, which were held this week at the Aalto-Theatre in Essen, Germany. DPA Microphones’ project lead Rune Møller and research and development manager Ole Moesmann accepted the award for the company.

The International Cinema Technology Association has named Ellis Jacob, president and chief executive officer of Cineplex, the recipient of the Global Cinema Innovation Award. The award will be presented to Jacob at ICTA’s awards ceremony at Puro Beach, Hilton Diagonal, June 16 in Barcelona the day before CineEurope begins.
