Rodeo FX Wins VES Award

Rodeo FX has won a Visual Effects Society Award for its work on season five of Game of Thrones. The award for Outstanding Created Environment in an Episode honored the studio’s creation of the city of Volantis. Rodeo FX received the award last night at the Beverly Hilton Hotel in Los Angeles and can add it to the VES Award it won last year for its work on Birdman.

Kodak Names Super 8 Winners

Kodak announced the Grand Prize winners of the Kodak Super 8 Filmmaking Challenge following last night’s screening of works from the 15 semi-finalists’ films at the Slamdance Film Festival. Kodak launched the Super 8 Filmmaking Challenge last November as part of the company’s celebration of the 50th anniversary of Super 8. MPSE Honors Sam Raimi

The Motion Picture Sound Editors will honor Sam Raimi with its annual Filmmaker Award. The director of the blockbuster Spider-Man features and the low-budget horror classic The Evil Dead is being recognized for his outstanding contributions to the art of cinema. He will receive the award at the MPSE Golden Reel Awards ceremony February 27th in Los Angeles.

NATAS Honors SMPTE, Chuck Pagano

The National Academy of Television Arts & Sciences has awarded SMPTE an Emmy Award for Technology and Engineering for its work on Standardization and Pioneering Development of Non-Live Broadband Captioning. The award was presented to SMPTE, Netflix, Home Box Office, Telestream, and the World Wide Web Consortium during the 67th Annual Technology & Engineering Emmy Awards ceremony, which was held January 8 in Las Vegas in conjunction with the international Consumer Electronics Show.

ASC Nominates Beasts of No Nation, Macbeth, Son of Saul for Spotlight Award

The American Society of Cinematographers has nominated three cinematographers for the 2016 Spotlight Award, which recognizes outstanding cinematography in feature-length projects that are screened at festivals, internationally, or in limited theatrical release. The winner will be announced at the 30th ASC Awards on February 14, at the Hyatt Regency Century Plaza. The 2016 nominees are Adam Arkapaw for Macbeth, Mátyás Erdély, HSC for Son of Saul and Cary Joji Fukunaga for Beasts of No Nation.
