Greig Fraser, ASC, won the coveted Theatrical Award for best cinematography in a motion picture for Lion at the 31st Annual American Society of Cinematographers Awards for Outstanding Achievement. The ASC Spotlight Award went to Gorka Gómez Andreu, AEC, for House of Others. Winners in the TV categories included Fabian Wagner, BSC for Game of Thrones, Tod Campbell for Mr. Robot and Igor Martinovic for The Night Of.
The Motion Picture Sound Editors today announced nominees for the 64th MPSE Golden Reel Awards. Nominees represent the work of the world’s most talented sound artists and their contributions to the past year’s most outstanding feature film, television, animation and computer entertainment productions. The 2017 MPSE Filmmaker Award winner is Guillermo del Toro. This year’s MPSE Career Achievement Award goes to Harry Cohen.
South Lake Audio Services re-recording mixers Keith Rogers, CAS and Scott Weber have received a nomination in the Cinema Audio Society’s 53rd CAS Awards for their work on the HBO television series Westworld. They share the nomination with production mixer John Pritchett, CAS; ADR mixer Mark Kondracki and Foley mixer Geordy Sincavage. The nomination, in the category Television – One Hour, comes for the series’ pilot episode, The Original.
Two–time Oscar-winning filmmaker, director, producer, animator and writer Brad Bird, whose films, including Ratatouille and The Incredibles, have consistently reflected the highest quality of production design, will receive the prestigious Cinematic Imagery Award from the Art Directors Guild at its 21st Annual Art Directors Guild's Excellence in Production Design Awards. Rooftop Films has awarded sixteen cash and service grants to alumni filmmakers, including The Rooftop Filmmakers’ Fund Garbo NYC Feature Film Grants, which were awarded to directors Robert Greene and Kirsten Johnson. Greene will receive a monetary grant of $15,000 to help finish his new film, Bisbee ‘17, and Johnson will receive a $10,000 grant to support her film, Deadpan.
Rising Sun Pictures has been nominated for Outstanding Compositing in a Photoreal Feature in the Visual Effects Society’s 15th Annual VES Awards. The nomination comes for the studio’s work on the Quicksilver Extraction sequence from the 20th Century Fox film X-Men: Apocalypse. The organization presents the accolade to individuals in the industry whose body of work has made significant and indelible contributions to cinema. It is the only ASC Award not given to a cinematographer, and is reserved for filmmakers who have been champions for directors of photography and the visual art form.
