Sixth Annual Hip Hop Film Festival Begins August 1

The Harlem Film House’s sixth annual Hip Hop Film Festival will offer film screenings, live block parties, rap battles, master classes known as Master Cyphers, and more. The festival takes place August 1 through September 3, with in-person events at the Alamo Drafthouse Cinema in Downtown Brooklyn, live events on 247films.tv, and in the Harlem Film House VR Metaverse. The opening night Art of the Score pre-festival event, to be held August 1, will feature hip hop legend Chuck D of Public Enemy.

Banh Ultimatum Vying for AICP Award

Currently short-listed for an Association of Independent Commercial Producers Post Award, Banh Ultimatum is a campy, two-minute spot disguised as a trailer for a 1980s vintage, action movie. The film was conceived and directed by freelance creative Jim Heekin and promotes Boulder, Colorado restaurant Daikon, which specializes in Vietnamese-style sandwiches. The editorial, visual effects, sound design and post-production services were completed at the post house 11 Dollar Bill.

Golden Trailer Awards to be Live Streamed July 22

The 21st annual Golden Trailer Awards ceremony will be live streamed from the Niswonger Performing Arts Center in Greenville, Tennessee on July 22. It is an unconventional ceremony that honors excellence in movie marketing, and this year is dedicated in appreciation of all the medical professionals, first responders and frontline workers who kept the country functioning throughout the COVID-19 economic shutdown. The ceremony will be live streamed for industry and film fans alike.

HPA Awards Open Creative Categories Call for Entries

Sony Launches Create Action Initiative to Support Social Justice

Cherokee Nation Offering Prize for Best Indigenous Short Film

Cherokee Nation Film Office and deadCenter Film, the state’s largest film festival, have partnered to recognize Indigenous filmmakers with the festival’s inaugural award for Best Indigenous Short Film. This year’s honoree will be recognized and awarded a $1,000 cash prize, provided by the generosity of the Cherokee Nation, on Sunday during the festival’s annual award show.

HPA Announces First League Honorees

The Hollywood Professional Association has announced the honorees for its first HPA League Honors, which recognize diverse members of the media and entertainment community who shine as examples of accomplishment, innovation, and leadership. Recipients of the HPA League Honors were determined by a jury of industry experts. The HPA League Honors are the culmination of HPA’s All In event, a weeklong exploration of diversity, equity, and inclusion in the industry taking place May 24-27.
