Free Solo Leads Documentary Award Nominees

The Broadcast Film Critics Association and the Broadcast Television Journalists Association have announced the nominees for the third annual Critics’ Choice Documentary Awards. The winners will be presented their awards at a gala event November 10 at BRIC in Brooklyn, New York. The film Free Solo leads this year with six nominations and one honor, including Best Documentary, Jimmy Chin and Elizabeth Chai Vasarhelyi for Best Directors, Best Sports Documentary, Most Innovative Documentary, Best Cinematography, Best Editing and a Most Compelling Living Subject of a Documentary honor for Alex Honnold.

ASC Contenders Names for the 2018 Student Heritage Awards

Contenders for the American Society of Cinematographers 2018 Student Heritage Awards have been named by the organization. Designed to inspire the next generation, the awards recognize graduate, undergraduate and documentary cinematography students for their exceptional work. The 13 nominees this year hail from 10 universities nationwide; the winners will be announced October 13.

NYWIFT Ha Phuong Scholarship 2018 Recipients Named

New York Women in Film & Television have announced the latest recipients of NYWIFT Scholarships and Awards. With support from the Ha Phuong Foundation this year, the newly re-branded NYWIFT Ha Phuong Scholarships provide a $5,000 scholarship each year to a second-year female film student at the Brooklyn College Feirstein School of Cinema, City College of New York, Columbia University, New York University, and the Stony Brook/Killer Films MFA in Film program

ETC Co-Founder Elizabeth Daley to be Honored Tonight

Twenty-five years ago, when digital entertainment was nascent, filmmaker George Lucas and University of Southern California School of Cinematic Arts Dean Elizabeth Daley envisioned the Entertainment Technology Center at USC to bridge the divide between technologists and filmmakers. Today, ETC@USC is celebrating a quarter century as Hollywood's premiere think tank and research center dedicated to emerging technology's impact on professional content. This evening, at its annual Studio Technology Leader's Dinner, ETC will commemorate its anniversary and honor Dean Daley with the Bob Lambert Technology Leadership Award.

Audi Campaign Wins Screenvision’s ACE Award

Screenvision Media today announced Audi's Parking Lot holiday campaign as the winner of the Hegarty Advertising in Cinema Excellence Award at the Adweek Creative 100 celebration in Cannes. Audi's Parking Lot campaign was a humorous look at the struggles of holiday shopping season, creatively showcasing the Audi RS3 and RS7 models, whilst depicting two fathers' frustrations over battling it out for the last parking space in a mall parking lot.

Event Cinema on the Rise: The 2018 Catalyst Awards

Each year, Digital Cinema Report presents the Catalyst Award to the best new technology introduced at CinemaCon, the annual convention of the National Association of Theatre Owners. At this year’s show, held April 23-26 at Caesar’s Palace in Las Vegas, people from more than seventy countries gathered to discuss the latest issues, trends and technologies in motion picture distribution and exhibition. One technology trend stood out. For many reasons, until now, event cinema has been an exhibition afterthought. That changed this year. This year three of the seven Catalyst Award winners were specifically designed to facilitate event cinema. Event cinema is on the rise.
