Barco announced today that Arts Alliance Media’s Screenwriter Theater Management System is the first TMS to support Barco’s Alchemy integrated cinema media processor. Christie today announced that it has installed a laser projection system at the Shanghai Film Art Center. The first movie screened on the new system was Godzilla. The Shanghai Film Art Center, the first cineplex to be built in China, has also just installed the Oriental Mega Screen.

The Laser Illuminated Projector Association applauds the efforts of the International Electrotechnical Commission for the May 16 publication of IEC 60825-1:2014, also known as Edition 3. This standard acknowledges, among many other updates, that laser-illuminated projectors should be classified the same way as lamp-based projectors, rather than as laser light show products. This action effectively acknowledges that the light emitted from laser projectors is unlike that of collimated laser beams used in light shows or other direct laser beam products.
Later this year, Moody Gardens MG3D Cinema will become the world’s first museum-based 4K 3D giant screen 6P laser projection system. The upgrade will replace Moody Gardens’ existing 4K xenon system with a state-of-the-art pair of Christie 4K laser projection heads, a 6P modular laser light farm with fiber optic delivery, Christie 4K 3D high-bitrate server, new giant screen 6P laser glasses, and a new premium white screen. D3D Cinema is systems integrator for the project.
