Berlinale Embraces Laser Projection

The Berlin International Film Festival is entering a new era of projection, as Barco’s Flagship Laser projector will screen a selection of movies at this year’s festival. For this 66th edition, Barco set up a Flagship Laser DP4K-60L projector at the Friedrichstadt-Palast venue, Europe’s biggest show theater with1,895 seats. Here, the festival shows films from the competition and holds Berlinale Special Galas.

LIPA Recommends Industry Practice for Measuring Speckle

The Laser Illuminated Projector Association has released to the public its Recommended Practice: Measurement of Speckle in Laboratory Conditions, a guide for laser projector makers, installers, and theater operators to measure and compare this common laser attribute caused when coherent light bounces off a rough surface. The practice is the first of its kind to detail procedures and equipment for obtaining a reference figure, and is being made available by LIPA at no cost as an industry service at the LIPA website at www.LIPAinfo.org/speckleRP.

Barco Introduces 18,000-lumen Laser Phosphor Cinema Projector

Barco is expanding its portfolio of laser-illuminated cinema projectors with a range of laser phosphor projectors. The new projectors have a laser phosphor retrofit module, so that exhibitors who already own a Barco cinema projector can now also benefit from laser technology. The DP2K-20CLP and DP2K-15CLP are the first two models and will be shipping globally in the second quarter 2016.

Ymagis Installs Cinema Park’s Barco Laser 4K Projection

Cinema Park, the leading nationwide multiplex chain in Russia, and Ymagis Group today announced the completion of the installation of a Barco DP4K-60L 4K laser projection system at the Cinema Park Mega Khimki location in Moscow. The projector equips the Premium Large Format Super D auditorium, which boasts a 17.7-meter wide screen and a seating capacity of 376.
