Documentary Captures Changing Art Form

Nice Shoes helped directors Dawn Mikkelson and Keri Pickett tell the story of the incredible women who are changing the rhythm of the male-dominated art of Taiko in the new independent documentary Finding Her Beat. The facility provided post-production services for the film—screening at this month’s Doc NYC festival—with senior colorist Oscar Oboza working directly with the two filmmakers in applying the final grade.

Pinball Wizard

Nice Shoes provided post-production finishing for the MPI Original feature film Pinball: The Man Who Saved the Game, a colorful story from New York City’s past. Senior colorist Marcy Robinson collaborated with writers/directors Austin and Meredith Bragg, producer Lana Link and cinematographer Jon Keng in finalizing the look of the film, which won the Overall Audience Choice and IFJA Directorial Debut awards at the Heartland International Film Festival and Best Narrative Feature at the SCAD Savannah Film Festival.

Barbarian: Tethered to Reality

When cinematographer Zach Kuperstein got the job to shoot writer-director Zach Cregger’s horror feature Barbarian, one of the first things he did was reach out to Light Iron senior colorist Sam Daley. The two had previously worked together on a short and three independent features — The Eyes of My Mother, The Vigil, and Paper Spiders — but their collaborations began during post, not during pre-production.

Changing the Look of The Chi

After a grim and gritty fourth season, the Showtime series The Chi returned to its more optimistic roots for Season 5, changing not only the tone of its stories but also the palette of its visuals. To finalize this look, Season 5 cinematographer Nathan Ray Salter collaborated with Light Iron colorist Katie Jordan, who had also graded Season 4.
