Christie Supports Shanghai Film Festival Again

Christie is proud to serve as the exclusive digital projection partner of the Shanghai International Film Festival for the eighth consecutive year. The festival runs June 11-19. Currently in its 19th year, the SIFF is known as China’s only non-specialized competitive international film festival accredited by the Paris-based Fédération Internationale des Associations de Producteurs de Films. The festival kicked off in style with the screening of Cold War II – the long-awaited sequel to the 2013 smash hit starring Chow Yun-fat and Aaron Kwok, while Korean-Chinese co-produced melodrama Sweet Sixteen will close the event. The Christie Solaria CP4230 DLP 4K Digital Cinema Projector is once again given the honor to screen both films at this prestigious event, attended by numerous international and regional celebrities.

Los Angeles Greek Film Festival to Honor Gianopulos

The Los Angeles Greek Film Festival has announced that it will honor Twentieth Century Fox chairman & CEO Jim Gianopulos during the Sunday, June 5 Orpheus Awards at the Egyptian Theatre in Hollywood. Gianopulos will be feted alongside previously announced fellow Orpheus honoree Academy Award winning actor J.K. Simmons. The awards will be hosted by American Horror Story star Mena Suvari.

Ten Thousand 4K Screens for India?

At a press conference in Los Angeles later this week, executives from the Dubai-based Aries Group will announce their plans to increase the international investment in the Indian film industry and to build 10,000 new 4K-projection multiplexes to serve the country’s burgeoning and entertainment-hungry middle class. If the group is successful, they will address a problem that has long plagued the Indian film industry.

Borealis to Premiere at Brooklyn Film Festival

The Brooklyn Film Festival has announced their full slate of films for the 2016 edition of this Brooklyn cultural mainstay, which will include the U.S. premiere of Sean Garrity’s award-winning Borealis set to open the festival June 3. This charming, moving and often comedic family drama stars Jonas Chernick, Joey King, Emily Hampshire and Kevin Pollak and has picked up several awards on the festival circuit, including best director for Garrity and a special jury prize for King at the Canadian Filmmakers’ Festival and an honorable mention for best actress award at the 2015 Vancouver International Film Festival. Pollak, Chernick, Hampshire, King and director Garrity are confirmed to attend.

Big Sky Film Festival Seeking Festival Producer

The Big Sky Documentary Film Institute is hiring a festival producer for the 2017 Big Sky Documentary Film Festival. The Big Sky Documentary Film Festival is the largest annual festival of non-fiction film in the American West. The festival draws an audience of 20,000 and film entries from every corner of the globe, with 150 non-fiction films screened and well over 100 visiting artists attending. This position will commence in July and go through early March 2017. The festival producer is responsible for planning, managing and overseeing the successful production of the annual 10-day festival happening in February.

Bentonville Film Festival Runs May 3-8

The Bentonville Film Festival has announced its 2016 schedule of events. Taking place on May 3-8 in Bentonville, Arkansas, the festival will feature approximately 35 films in competition, and expand its platform with the addition of a short film competition, three community events and a new Diversity and Inclusion Summit to be held for senior level decision makers from multiple industries. The Bentonville Film Festival, which was founded by Oscar-winning actress Geena Davis, remains the only festival to offer winning films guaranteed distribution. For the second year, the winning films in three categories will receive full distribution from Walmart, VUDU and AMC Theaters.
